Anyone please jump in tell I’m wrong if so. I have a weed eater that fuel lines dry rotted, on. I have gotten nearly 7 years out of it with no problems. The shop was very helpful and got the lines replaced and I was back in the yard yesterday making it look nice. I’m supper lucky to get 7 years of trouble free operation from anything mechanical. The past lawnmowers and such from Wally World usually last 2 seasons then go belly up. When you are a full time college student, working 40+ hours and have kids at home you don’t have much choice you have to go cheap.
Now the complaint, when at the shop I was bragging the how good my little machine was and ask how long they usually last. I was amazed when I heard that 50-60 hours was the expected life. Is this another case of dictating the cheap price at the expense of quality and the consumer? I intend to continue using the shop and the brands they carry Snapper, Stihl and Echo. I have heard over and over that the big store tells the manufacture they will sell them so many units at a certain price and quality be dammed. Some makers have taken a stand and told them to take a long walk on a short pier. I would rather pay 2 or 3 times as much and get 10 or 15 years from something with fewer headaches and at a great savings. The Sapper mower is almost 6 years old and 1 trip to the shop (water in the gas) and a couple of spark plugs and air filters. That’s what should happen. Hope I’m not hurting my lucky weed eater and jinxing it, but 50-60 hours life for something that cost nearly a hundred is stupid or other expletives.

you're wrong.

You could have at least said "incorrect".

"Everybody" around here seems to know of the horrible quality reputation for department-store bicycles. I've seen countless "what bike should I buy threads" that include "buy at a real bike shop, stay away from the huge x-mart department stores" advice.

If their bikes are such garbage, it should be no surprise that everything else they sell (especially mechanical devices) are garbage, too.

I'm certainly not defending them (I really hate these giant x-mart places), and I'm not saying it's "right", but the results should not be surprising.

Here's an interesting perspective on the quantity/quality issue: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/102/open_snapper.html

Thanks KO thats what I wanted.
The article reinforced my beliefs. I will continue to do business at the shop and plan to keep my Snapper (Big Red) for many years.
I don’t mind being told I’m wrong but give some argument debate as to why.

because.

If Botto minimized the window he had open with certain manly images on it, he could better explain. Don't mind him. He's trying his best here.
