I need a new light for my Specialized lighting system. The battery is still good, but the switch on the light itself broke. The system is about 3 years old and I want to find a replacement light, without having to buy a whole new system. My question is this, "are the plugs standard for different systems?" or " are there only a few different type plugs, so I could interchange manufacturer's?" I think I already know the answer to this and I'm S.O.L., but the thing is I can get an employee discount if I buy from a different manufacturer. If I buy a Specialized, then I have to buy it from another bike shop and I hate giving my business to them!
Why not just rig up a temporary workaround till you can find a better deal and not have to patronize a shop you dislike? There are probably only two wires involved, and you can get any kind of connector you want (automotive included) at Radio Shack or similar supply store. A little electrical tape and you're back in business, till better days.

JonR's suggestion is the one I was thinking. You can make any kind of "jumper" with different plugs on each end to mate up two different connectors. Once you have finalized your system you could take the extra step of cutting off the old plug and replacing it with a compatible one or just continue to run it with the jumper. With a DC system (batteries) you just have to make sure you get all the positves together and all the negatives together. The light bulb doesn't care, but the switch might, or it might not. Just test your connections to make sure everything works before doing anything final like soldering.
I'm holding out for Allister's 10-LED system!
