That said, this is, bar none, the most common place in Coral Gables to find wrong-way cyclists - whether they be leisure riders, poseurs, or kids trying to drag-race on their Huffy dual-suspension, self-destructing MTB's. The width of each one-way lane is very popular with that crowd.

I visited that place a few months back and was amazed at the lack of almost any pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure. Those sidewalks seen in the picture are few and far between. If you're walking around, you're most likely on the street.

Hasn't changed much since the '40s.

On the flip side, considering the sampling of "bicycle infrastructure" that has popped up around here, I am quite glad that they haven't attempted to add any more of it.

P.S. I must get you a photo of the so-called "bike lane" striping down by the Crandon Marina, just before Key Biscayne. Unlike these One Way signs, I find them far from funny or laughable.

I certainly wouldn't trust them in MY neighborhood.

My first best guess would be because there are cars driving on the streets. But in actuality, they are three way stops.

My second best guess would be that to trust any moving vehicle with a brain size less than 1% of the vehicle size just can't be safe.

That new wave song from the 80's "Nobody Walks in LA" goes double for Miami. In most people's minds, only losers and the homeless (and maids in neighborhood pictured) walk or ride bikes in Miami. One of the worst places to do either. And its a shame because the weather is so good.

Having lived most my life in central Florida, I would disagree with that statement, unless you enjoy pedalling in 90+ degrees and 100% humidity. Winters are nice though.

I found my comments amusing; Outrage was placed in italics for a reason. To me, the situation appeared as - what is the BFD? Where should the realtor have posted the directional info to the house on that street, given the close one way streets?

Humor? OK. Must be a slow day.

BTW, I think most drivers could figure out how to handle the directions safely; probably most cyclists too.

similar thing happened a couple years ago, some restaurant opened up and had a billboard placed that said 'turn right at the light' good but the next light was a one way going left.

None, but anyone who lives around here will tell you that it doesn't take Open House signs to get joyriding (in the sense of folks out for a drive to look at the houses and the neighborhood) motorists to come down the wrong way of Country Club-Prado. Happens every day.

For that matter, folks who live at the corner houses of each block will almost always cut through the median or turn against the flow of traffic to get into their driveway just that much quicker. Have to be on your toes with those folk.

I.L.T.B., has it ever occurred to you that your humor comes off with the same insuppressible hilarity of Don Rickles neutering a bull? Apparently, we do not understand each other's humor - I thought this set of photos were humorous, you obviously did not. You find your comment funny, I would have thought it utterly idiotic - had you not mentioned a few posts later that you intended it with humor in mind (which set the tone of your post in a completely different light when I read it the second time - only then did I understand that you intended a lighter tone to your comments).

The street has 4-way stops (or as kellyjdrummer noted, 3-way stops) on the more traveled intersections, 2-way stops on the other streets with Country Club-Prado having the ROW. For the most part though, the people running down the cross-streets nearly blow through the signs in the first place - I gather the additional stop signs were added to help keep folks a bit more aware of their surroundings. Why they were incorrectly marked is anyone's guess.

That said, a new 3-way stop was added on one particularly narrow street that has a T branch down to some other residences. To look at the intersection, one would question why it would be necessary, but once you sit around there for a while and watch the general motorist behavior in the area, the need for the three-way stop becomes rather apparent.

No purpose in marking it 4-way for inattentive/aggressive drivers either. The only traffic that alternates between having a stop and the ROW at the following 2-way stops is Country Club-Prado - not the cross-streets, which have stops regardless of it being a "4" way or 2-way, and the only place where stupidity might get the better of a driver when presented with a 3-way stop (specifically, looking the wrong way down the street for traffic, hitting the gas, and getting creamed by a vehicle traveling in the proper direction).

Either that, or the 4-way sign is to warn for wrong-way cyclists :lol:

Either. Gables is mostly clueless about infrastructure, but not harmful - yet. Miami-Dade's infrastructure is just generally stupid, but easy to selectively ignore.

As for the City Of Miami, they've been spending money striping random sidewalks as split MUPs (peds on one side of the line, bicycles on the other) whenever they need to justify their alternative transportation "concern." :rolleyes:

Agreed on all fronts.

However, there are a few gems... Key Biscayne (minus the whole toll booth turnaround issue) and the Miccosukee Golf Course (Kendale Lakes) come to mind. Of course, getting to either is always an adventure unless you drive there like... everybody.

Two come to mind, not that they serve much purpose in the first place (thank god). One is on the sidewalk on NW 14th St, between Le Jeune Rd. & NW 37th Ave, terminates at each intersection (Google Maps will go to the intersection @ 14th and 37th). The other is about a mile north on NW 37th Ave, beginning at the intersection of NW 25th St, and continuing north for a short distance.

Hey, on the subject, have you seen the newly striped bike lane(s) on S Miami Avenue between SW 15th St and SW 25th Rd?

Talk about the road to nowhere... going southbound, it dumps you into one of the craziest mobs of intersections in all of South Florida. Going north, it feeds you into the newly constructed circle of death at sw 15th. Absolutely NO signage on where to go at either end.

It's almost as if they striped it to say "See! See! We ARE bike friendly!"
