Mountain Biking - Specialized Big Hit or Rockhopper (or Comp) Disc 29er

First of all, I apologize for the people who got sick of recommending bikes but decisions must be made by tomorrow and I need your HELP!
Talking about my concern, I am looking for a multi purpose bike that can be ridden possibly anywhere.(Mountains, local parks with lots of tree stumps, commuting but not as much as the other two) I came across a guy who was selling the 2004 Big hit comp (Blue) for $900 CAD and I was wondering if the price is reasonable. (It's in excellent condition) Also, I am thinking about buying the Rockhopper Disc 29er or possibly a comp version if Big Hit is not recommended.
There are pros and cons about these two bikes. Big hit is going to be heavy but I will be getting better components compared with Rockhopper Comp Disc which I will be paying around $950-1000 range for it. I like to have the back suspension although its not necessary.
What do you guys think? Also, Big Hit is a medium sized and I am 6' tall and 180lbs heavy. Do you guys think its too small for me?
I would appreciate any comments so please let me know what you think about it.

The Big Hit will probably have better components...but it's not exactly a multi-purpose bike. It's a big, burly, heavy freeride bike with tons of travel. I've never ridden one (or any freeride bike for that matter), so I can't comment on how well it pedals uphill...but I don't think I'd want one as a multi-purpose bike. I definitely wouldn't want to be using it as a commuter.

Thanks for your comment. I heard RH and BH weighs about 30 and 35 consequtively. will that extra 5 lbs make a difference?

No, I'm saying that there is such a drastic difference that it would be pointless to compare them. The first question you need to ask yourself is what your needs are. What kind of terrain do you ride?

I dont really have a preferred terrain to ride my bike. I am just looking for a bike that can be ridden pretty much everywhere. The reason behind is that I own a road bike (Trek) and I love it but it's soo limited in terms of usability. I have a strong leg so I thought adding couple more pounds on the frame itself won't get me any problems.

The difference extends beyond the weight. The BigHit has completely different geometry, making it ideal for freeride/downhill applications, but quite unsuitable for the multi-use path or the local singletrack. All that travel will likely interfere with pedaling efficiency and will make your experience less enjoyable on the XC-ish trail. And I seriously doubt that the BigHit is only 35 lbs.

Think of it this way. Can you ride a mountain bike for a road race? Sure. But would you?

Ok. Thats much more understandable now. Now, if you were to choose a bike for my purpose, which one would you choose? Would you consider full suspension at all? (ex. Trek Fuel)
