General Cycling Discussion - Greasy calf.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, all the time I always assumed that grease was flinging off my drive train onto the back of my right calf. But today after a ride the truth came to light and I realized it wasn't done by any flinging. Does this happen to you guys too or is it just me? Would make a cool tattoo.

... Would make a cool tattoo.
It's been done, more than a couple times. I don't know locations of any photos right off, but they're out there.

That's actually what it's called..."chainring tattoo", and yes it happens to me quite a bit. Especially if I'm stopped for a little while and rest my bike on my right side. Would be a cool tattoo.

Rookies and long time cyclists get them but rookies seem to get them more often.

you don't need to get a tattoo.. just continue press your leg against the chainring every time you ride... as you have been doing....
this smells like troll to me

I usually get indistinct smugges from the chain, only a couple of times have I gotten the disinct chain or chainring (I don't remember which) imprint on my leg.

Try that across the face, then go to your group ride.
