Dude... really? You shouldn't feel like less of a man. Just be glad that your wife is into something that keeps her in shape. And plus, if she can do it, you can do it too. Just start training with her and you'll find out that while it's hard work, it's doable. Also it's just another thing that the two of you can do together. If you start racing then you won't have to wear a straw cowboy hat... well you could, but it might fall off during the swim. :) We expect of pictures of your first tri sometime in the next few months.

Congratulations. You have every reason to be proud. She's priviledged to have a spouse so supportive, too. Why don't you join her? Was is a sprint distance, or what?

I've been doing tri's for a couple years and last weekend my wife finally joined me and did an Olympic distance. We actually ran into each other during the swim and she beat me by 10 seconds out of the water. We had a great time.
We are doing a half ironman in July. It's great to have someone to help motivate and support you even if you don't train together.

Two words Phil- "Total Immersion"
Not saying that it will make you a fast swimmer, but you'll be able to swim long distances in open water comfortably.
