Do anybody know the difference in performance / quality between these two cassettes?
Thanks,
Corsaire ?

Hey, great info, nice to know there are other road cassettes! Can't say
anything about the SRAM, but I like their chains. I will say I weighed an
Ultegra 12-27 and a Dura Ace 12-27 and the Ultegra was 8oz, DA 6.5oz.
Price difference about $35 (slightly under $1/gm weight difference).

I wonder if an Ultegra drivetrain, except for the cassette which is SRAM R9 12/27 would be a mismatch, and therefore a reduction in performance??? Hmmmmmmm...

i don't think it would make much of difference. At times like these, assuming prices are equal, I pick the lightest, even if it is like 120 grams. it just makes my descsion easier.

I have the ultegra 12-27 on my bike, becuase that is what the LBS had in stock that day, and I didn't feel like having them order it. I'm not sure of the weights of these two cassettes.

The reason why I ask is because I just got me the Bianchi Vigorelli for the price of the Eros $ 1,099.00, brand new from a dealer in NY, Ebay Item # 3643503461
, but part of the catch was that it came with the SRAM R9 12/27 instead of the Ultegra 9 12/27 casette.

is it worth to spend the $ 39.00 for the Ultegra to replace with what should've come with in the first place, or the SRAM will do?

Any differences between these two in quality and performance?

I'm getting off performance website to replace my ultegra a DA chain, cassette and rear derailleur 9 sp,all for a double for $127 bucks. Not bad,all 2003.Not much weight difference, maybe 40-45g less but do expect a better shifting bike. Its not bad now but DA of that price, why not.

I am currently using the 12-26 SRAM R9 and (with the SRAM chain) it works very well. Smooth and precise with the Dura Ace set up. I use the set up on a triple and have had no problems, ghost shifts, or any other reason to curse the cassette.
Also take note...the R9 comes in 4 configurations:11-21, 11-23, 12-23, 12-26. Anything else (12-27) is either not an R9 or maybe not even a SRAM.

Tarantula,
I'm new at this mechanical thing: How do I know if my SRAM R9 is 12-26??? I think it has to be...
The transmission on my Vigorelli is:
Bottom Bracket:Shimano Ultegra cartridge 118.5mm,
Crankset: Shimano Ultegra 30/42/52,
Chain: Shimano HG-53,
Front Derailleur: Ultegra 28.6
Rear " : Ultegra 9 spd
CASSETTE: should've been Ultegra 12-27, 9 spd
instead at the shop swapped it for the SRAM R9
which I think must be 12-26
Would it still work correctly???

Thanks

My personal experience with the SRAM cassette and mirrored on RoadBikeReview: Use a SRAM chain with a SRAM cassette for best results.

The short answer is yes...the setup should work. The main difference I found when I changed from a Shimano chain to the SRAM chain was in the crispness of the gear change. Mind you, I am not an expert in bike mechanics. I just have experience with this particular cassette and chain combination. Godd luck and ride, ride, ride.

Yep. I thought SRAM made 12-26...not 12-27...
