I just picked up this DVD (pretty cheaply I might add) called "Hell On Wheels" and I enjoyed it immensely. It's a behind the scenes look at the 2003 Tour de France and revolves around Erik Zabel and Rolf Aldag on the T-Mobile team. It's in German with English subtitles, but that is only a minor annoyance. Don't expect a race recap and a summary of each stage and who the winners were. It's more of a documentary of stuff that you'd never notice from watching the usual TV coverage.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it and what did you think. If you're a Tour junkie, it's probably a good addition to your collection!

I've seen it. The old guy giving the massages was a bit of a curly toe moment thing for me, but otherwise I enjoyed it. Erik Zabel's unflappable demeanor in spite of his bad luck is an inspriation. He's easily one of my all time favorite pro riders.

I've seen and enjoyed it very much.

Although in light of Zabel and Aldag's later admissions of doping it kinda ruins the good guy angle for me.

cool movie all the same though.

A worthy companion piece to "Hell On Wheels" is "Overcoming", which follows team CSC during the '04 race season. Similar parallels of the dope thing in "Overcoming" with Basso and, of course, Riis. But Jens Voigt comes through as the highlight of the DVD.
