You're not so much 'insulating' as you are sealing the windows off from the cold air with the clear plastic stuff.

I put it on in the winter and can feel a big difference, especially since the head of my bed is at the window. I take it off during the summer because my windows are open and the ceiling fan is on more than the AC.

Your making your own double glazing by doing that and yes it would work. Maybe not as well as genuine double glazing but its MUCH cheaper. During winter nights I would put foam core board in the windows to help reduce heat loss.

The whole "RF" poisoning thing is over rated. I'm a ham radio operator and I routinely have 5 watts of power a few feet from my head. A cell phone, for comparison, is about 100 miliwatts. Itty, bitty, teeny amount of power. You probably get more RF from the sun than you do from actual radios...people are idiots sometimes.:notamused:

Go get some adhesive backed weather stripping and make sure all doors and windows seal well. Foam gaskets behind light switch and outlet covers. Get a tube of caulk and caulk around door and window frames. Ten bucks or so in material and and a hour or two of your time. If you have access to the attic, spray foam around electrical boxes in ceiling for lights and fans.

Sears used to sell a stick on gasket and a magnetic Plexiglas overlay that went over windows. You just tugged the Plexiglas overlay off when you wanted to open the window, and it did an effective job at sealing the air.
