Is there much difference between the Shimano 105 and Ultegra chains? I'm looking to buy a few spares and notice that on some online sites there is little price difference between the two. Elsewhere the 105 chains are several dollars cheaper. I don't want to waste money on a fancy chain unless the materials really are better and the chain will last longer. I seem to be going through quite a few chains these days.

Shimano chains are very similar across all of their better level groups (105 and above). The higher line chains are a hair lighter, shinier and possibly slightly more durable but the differences are minor and the performance differences nearly negligable. For the same cost, buy Ultegra. If there is a significant saving, buy 105.
