Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Bike computer suggestions?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can anyone recommend a bike computer to me. I dont want to get anything crazy expensive because I think my bike will get stolen some day.
I have a commuter bike and I bike about 2 hours a day. I think the computer can help to convince me to go fast and let me train myself better.
I would like it to tell me what my cadence is (for training and to keep my knees healthy i have been told to cadence high)
does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

Cateye's are the most reliable IMHO. I have the older model Astrale 8 and the new Strada with cadence is rated highly. Take a look.

Walmart Schwinn Computers $9.60. Work Great I have one on each bike.
Wow - just commented on this in a thread in this forum. Again, the Nashbar wireless was on sale for $12.95 and works like a charm. More accurate than others I've had, and durable. Backlit - only problem people have is that it isn't auto-on. If you can remember to turn it on, you're golden.

links would be helpful.
Good point, girl. Here's the link (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=600082&subcategory=60001035&brand=&sku=12780&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Cyclocomputers) to the Nashbar wireless.

A couple of thoughts:
1) I do local ebay searches and bought my last computer as a local pickup at a good price. (Should be fair amount of choice in toronto).
2) I wish I had gotten a cadence able computer.
3) clocks are nice, but mine does not have seconds which could help with heart rate measurement.

I use this one and it's pretty good. I think i paid $40 CAD for it at the lbs. It's fully wired, but that's one of the reasons i picked it. Wireless just seems like an unecessary complication for me, but then again i'm starting to be a grumpy old man.
it's got cadence:

I just picked up Planet Bike Protege 9.9 Wireless. It's about $30.00.

It doesn't do cadence, but I absolutely love my Planet Bike Protege 8.0. $19 from Amazon.com and it works like a charm. It does exactly what you said, helps you have a target in mind and know when you've reached it. Its also just a fun gadget to have to know how fast you're going and how far you've gone.
