Hi all,

I hang out in the Commuting and Long Distance forums, mostly. I'm thinking about getting my Mom a recumbent trike for her 76th birthday. Although she taught *me* how to ride a bike about 45 years ago, no one ever returned the favor for her.

Out there in fleabay land I found the Triton Pro, and then found their home on the web

Has anyone out there ever seen one of these? $400 is sure do-able, especially if I can get my siblings to kick in. I see it's a single speed, and that's probably my biggest concern. They are in Fort Collins, Co--pretty flat, especially where I think Mom and Dad will be riding (Dad's already got a used e-bike recumbent all lined up) but I'd don't want her to have to get off and push the thing, either.

If this is a real piece o' junk, I'll keep looking, but if anyone can point me in the direction of a good, relatively inexpensive trike I'd sure appreciate it.

Hi,
Maybe not just a piece of junk... But not something you'd want to use for any real transportation either. It appears to be direct drive to the 20" wheel which would make it little faster than walking speed! Probably a lot of fun in the yard but not to keep up with the E-bike!

Still just single speed (though you could easy change that) but at least it has a chain and sprokets so would be good for some speed. Might be a little hard for older folk to get in and out of though!

Like the discussion on BROL sez: it's a rear-wheel-steer, 18 gear-inch, 40-pound Big Wheel. Take that thing on a MUP and 6 year olds would be racing past you on their mini-bmx bikes. IF you could keep it on the path.

Thanks for all the input. I read some more on the Triton after I posted and realized that, yes, it really is a piece of junk.

My LBS can get a Sun for me for a pretty good price--and that looks like a bike even I'd ride!

I will search the forums tonight after work for Sun related posts, and post any questions I might have that aren't answered.

I see the Triton as a 'tricycle', and a Sun as a real 'trike'; but I am opinionated having an old Sun Tad!

It would be so funny to trick out a Triton with a jet engine, serious gearing/brakes/fairing/wheels :D but I do not think your parents would like that. Good luck!
