Anyone here familiar with the law in regards to electric bikes in the State of Texas? I'm thinking about purchasing one, but I would love to familiarize myself with the applicable laws and regs before I make the jump. All I know is that for an ebicycle to be used on the road it has to be limited to 20 MPH.

Well, I'm confused! Is an electric assisted bike a scooter or something else? The Texas law seems to referring to two types of power assisted vehicles, a scooter or a neighborhood power assisted vehicle such as a golf cart. Where do electric bikes fit in this scheme?

I have a recumbant with a gasaline engine I ride around Spring Texas. I have seen many cops drive right by me without even an interest. One cop actually watched me run a stop sign and did nothing about it. I would think a electric would be so much more discrete no cop would even consider bothering you.
