Audi A6 Quattro pulled too close to the curb and just raped my front, left rim.   Totally scratched

Make sure you didn't pop any wheel weights off either.

one more reason to bike commute.

sorry to hear this, I hate vehicle damage of any sort, esp. when self induced and I cannot blame it on someone else.

I completely feel your pain! just did that last week to my car. Any suggestions for buffing it out easily myself? I've got 18" alloy wheels... completely sucks. I'm still mad!

I don't think I've ever encountered a curb high enough to even reach the rims on my Jeep.

Sucks about your rims, man. You should get some big pimpin' curb-feelers so that doesn't happen any more.

does this mean the car no longer functions?

Loss of bling == lowered functionality. Plus, the scratches totally destroy the aerodynamics of the rim.

Unfortunately, to some people this would be correct...

Yeah, I was hoping for more of a do-it-yourself solution, you know- cost effective
Same reason I epoxied the cover of my rear view mirror back on after I knocked it off on the garage as opposed to getting a new one. I'd rather spend that money on a new wheelset for my bike, or something :)

My wife's Passat rims look like they were run through a compactor. I try to keep my car in top shape - since I just got it in December. Now it looks like crud.

Car does function fine. But after I heard the nasty scraping of the wheel to the curb, I didn't function so well the rest of the day. :(

That's what you get for having shiny, shiny wheels.

And for parking on the street like a freaking poor person. God invented heated garages for a reason, you know.

I used to park by touch, too.

Did it on my first car and the sound was so horrible I now park about two feet from the curb. Amazing I never got a ticket.

I did that to the WRX a few months ago on the right rear rim.

Having gold rims sucks :(.

Rims and caps are made to scratch. Once you have them all scratched then you can quit worrying about them.

Now go ride your bike.

first time I have agreed with botto, " does this mean the car no longer functions?" :)

The function of the $$ wheels is to look good, whatever that means.

Downtown at work. The street is our parking lot. But yeah, I'm kinda poor. No gay'-raj at the house. Oh, and my house is a cardboard box too. It says "Kenmore" on the side of it.

And all you big, fat meanies can stick it! The car functions fine. I just like keeping nice things nice.My last car still looked decent after 200,000+ miles. If the transmission wouldn't have thrown in the towel, I'd still be driving it. There's nothing wrong with being upset when you screw something up. I'm getting over it. But, it still pisses me off that I did it to my nice looking ride.

'cept mine has a bad scratch on the other side - front wheel - that you could see if they weren't spinning.

My XJ is covered in trail pinstripes. I could park it next to yours, and nobody would notice your scuffed up rim.

There are guys who can buff these out. I had the dealer scuff mine pretty bad when they did a tire rotation (I have different size tires rear to back so they have to remove the tires from the rims and rotate side to side). I made a fuss about it and they setup an appointment and the guys came in with a machine and cleaned them up. Check around, not sure how much they charge since mine were free.
