Stolen: 2008 Cervelo P-3 from the transition area at Cap Tex Tri in Austin, May 25

Please be on the lookout for my 2008 Cervelo P-3C that was stolen from the transition area at Cap Tex Tri on May 25th. It was located in the plus 50 area for the Olympic Tri and was the first bike on the aisle a few rows down from the Elite wave.

A bag was stolen from the next row from a friend who had to have his wife bring spare keys from Houston. There was a section of fence along the river trail that had been opened for some sort of maintenance after the swim was finished. Volunteers were checking numbers at the front gate but the transition area was so large that they couldn't see the entire area. 1700 bikes had originally been in the Olympic transition and several hundred were left at the time I returned to get my gear.

My shoes that had been clipped in the pedals had been removed and were on the opposite side of the rack. The transition was completely emptied by the time the police arrived.

The bike was new in March and had only two races, Ironman Arizona on April 13th and Cap Tex Olympic on May 25.

2008 Cervelo P3 size 56, red black white, All Three Sports sticker on back of seat tube, My name on both sides of the top tube but probably removed by now. SN SWP3C02M00141

That sucks. Probably obvious but make sure to keep checking craigslist and e-bay.

I'm sorry for your misfortune.

Did you also post it on slowtwitch.com? You'll get a much larger and more serious audience over there.

Thanks for the comments,

I did post it on Slowtwitch and several other places.

I guess its time to start scratching and clawing up some good deals and get another bike ready.

My daughter says I can't have my old one back.

my wife said that saw that the zip ties have been cut near the water entrance and thats how she got her bike when we were leaving. she went through there instead of walking all the way around and she said that it was already open when she got there and saw other ppl doing it. she figured that one of the event ppl opened it up. sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear this. Assume you thought of this already, but did you check your home owner's (or renter's) policy. My buddy had his $9000 Look Tri bike stolen from in front of the Sport's Basement in the Presidio (San Francisco) while it was locked. Insurance covered most of the replacement (oddly a P2C Dura Ace), which was more bike for less money according to him.

Hope they nail the *******.

Homeowners is paying for the replacement, minus a hefty deductible. Hope to get the rest from the race organization. I have another P3C on the way next week, so all is well other than racing on my daughter's bike in the morning.

Glad to hear. Those of us who haven't gone through it cannot really know how you feel, though we think we can imagine. At least you're getting another sweet bike, and not "dropping down" to something different. Hopefully race officials at your race in Tex will learn that even more security is needed. Can you imagine the total dollar values represented in the T1 areas of any of the races we do?

They still "string up" horse thieves in Texas, I believe. It should be that or worse for a Cervelo.
