Are there two types of cleats for the Speedplay x series of pedals? I keep hearing about 3-hole and 4-hole cleats or is this just different mounting procedures depending on which shoes you are using.
Thanks
Mike
Speedplay makes 2 kinds of pedals X for road and FROG for mountain. The cleats have adaptors to fit any kind of shoe , hence the different hole patterns.

I think only the road cleats have adapters - for the frog cleats, you just have to dremel your shoe.
BTW, I run FROGS and I LOVE THEM!

Just to confuse you even more, Speedplay has come out with a new pedal and cleat that swivels less or can be fixed in place. I suppose it is for those riders that don't like the swivel with the regular road versions. I personally think the swivel makes me a smoother pedaler and it took me a ride or two to get in sync. I'v had them for 5 years and love them. Doubt if I'll ever go back to anything else.

I just started with speedplay for the road, I fell over the first three times, now I am more practiced and carefull. I find them great for hills but not as good for city traffic. I'm speedplay nuetral.

Hey bikeman! Do you know where I can find some info on the new Speedplay pedals and cleats? They don't have anything on their web site about them at all.
Thanks

Go to Speedplay (http://www.speedplay.com) and check out the graphic for the Zero fixed position. You of course have to get past the Flash homepage animation first. They look a little different with the notches in the cleat that look like a ratchet deal. Haven't seen or heard of any reviews yet.

I just got a look at the new Zero's. They seem to be alright but I figure if I wanted a fixed cleat I will stick with what I have. I still like the idea of the X-2's better. I am hoping that Santa will leave me a set under the tree.

Capt'n, I think you'll really like the X-2's. I'm glad to hear you're not compromising and getting the x-3's. the 2's are soooo much better!
Let us know if you get em and how you like em.
As far as info on the new "zero's", I was able to find out all the info at their website. I'm suprised you weren't able to.
BTW, I was checking out CRANK Bros. website. Those egg-beater pedals look pretty wild! I'll let others be the genieu (sp?) pigs before I invest my $$$$. I'm curious enough to keep checking though. Apparently, they're going to be releasing a ROAD specific cleat w/ rubber pontoons on either side. Since I get the employee discount my cost is only about $65.00 but I'll wait and see!
