View Full Version : First 1000K Brevet
Last weekend, the Lone Star Randonneurs held a 1000Km brevet. Nine of us braved the heat, wind, and hills to successfully complete the course. This was my first 1000Km brevet and longest single ride ever, eclipsing my former record of 500 miles in the Texas Time Trials.
It was a tough ride with strong south winds and high temperatures each day in the mid-90's. But, with a little perseverance, it got done.
I'm already starting to think that 1200Km might be in store next year.
holy sh*t, nice!!
when, and how much did you sleep?
anything you'd change about your bike setup?

The route is three loops that return back to the start so we had motel rooms and access to our stuff after each loop. I got about 2.5 hours sleep after the first loop, and 3.5 hours after the second. the hardest part is riding away from the car on the third loop. It's VERY tempting to bail out between loops.
The advantage of the multiple loops is there's no need for bag drops so it simplified logistics. We did the ride totally unsupported (no sag or staffed controls).
Bike setup was pretty simple. Carradice Pendle saddlebag, two water bottles and a 2-l CamelBak. Nothing fancy. 30 mm Grand Bois tires really help with the chip seal. I don't think I'd change anything.
