General Cycling Discussion - The U.S. Cycling Hall of Fame needs a home.

Right now all the exhibits are being kept in storage in a shed on an old farm in Branchburg NJ...

Unfortunately the museum has for along time been a half-arsed effort. Somerville isn't exactly a cyclist or tourist destination these days. It would make more sense to me to move the museum to Trexlertown PA near the velodrome and Rodale bike park

Why N.J. Is the Tour de Sommerville that famous and a trend setter. I'd vote UC Davis as the epicenter of US cycling.

I think Davis is about #93 on the list.

Sure Davis is a nice place to ride, but where does it fit in cycling history?

I say Worcester MA.

Let's push to honor HISTORY with the Hall of Fame, not cycling's present. Let's honor the world's most forgotten great cyclist by moving the hall of fame to where he honed his skills and make the world once again aware of his accomplishments!

Let's not put the hall where it is easy to cycle, but where it is difficult, and where one great man cycled through difficulty that would crush most of us to become world champion.

Honor the Worcester Whirlwind and put the hall of fame in a place to honor the one person most worthy to be in it.

i would think a large corporation would want to affiliate their name with that very worthy project.

They need something new out on Hains Point in DC to replace "The Awakening"....

A relevant question might be why does any commerative musuem get placed anywhere. Why is the Baseball museum in Cooperstown, NY. And for sure, why is the Rock and Roll Museum in Cleveland. For rock and roll, I'd picked Hollywood or Monterey, Calif.

I think the bottom line is that any hall of fame gets put where the person with the money/backing decides to put it. Which in the long run is all well and good.

The folk history of baseball is that Doubleday invented the game in Cooperstown in 1839.
Cleveland has long rock and roll connections, much longer than Hollywood or Monterey.
The term "Rock and Roll" was coined in Cleveland in the early '50's, and the first rock concert was held there.

So...where in the US are there historical cycling connections?

Maybe Trek or Waterford would consider some corporate donation of space or building......

but Washington DC makes sense too IMO.

Why not place it with one of the other bicycle museums? Like Pedaling History Museum, or Bicycle Museum of America?

How about Davis WV? Canaan Valley - birth place of the 24 hour race?
