Touring fans:

Here's a photo of some nice, cleatless touring shoes I found at Wal-Mart for $17. They fit my MKS platform pedals and Cristophe toe clips perfectly.

The shoes are roomy enough for warm socks yet fit well with regular socks.

The sole is thin in profile but stiff enough for bicycling.

The shoes are called Night Sport by Athletic Works. Model # 5752929.

I don't quite care for wally's world products, but it's nice to see someone overcome and improvise. That's what cycling is all about. Kudos to you!

Regards.

Same here- Walmart is the devil, pushing small time businesses out of work. But that said, glad to see someone improvising like this, and not giving in to what is considered necessary for cycling. If a $17 pair of shoes work, that's great!

I use a pair of teva brand trail "approach' shoes I picked up out of the Sports Authority 1/2 price discount bin(I hope thats more politically correct). They have a beefy toe plug(and overall construction) which is nice for durability with clip pedals and come in handy offbike for hiking etc. They have lasted several years and still going strong.

Sorry to be so non-PC with the W-M shoes. What can I say?

But today, at a non-W-M store, I bought the most comfortable pair of off-road shoes I've ever worn: Trail Meisters by Columbia Sportswear. Not for biking, although you could if you used Power Grips or no straps at all.

I think it's a great that you found a way to improvise, because that's what counts. I used to make my own hockey sticks when I was a kid and it would always get good a laugh, until I scored a few. I recycled sticks using glue.

But no more W-M, okay

I haven't been to my local WM in over a year. When I used to go there, the place was a mess, it was crowded, and I just hated it. Now I've been enlightened about the evils of WM. See you yourself: http://www.walmartsucks.com/

Interesting find. I find the only reason to go to Wal Mart are shoes. Especially since just about every shoe in my price range (and quite a few out of my range) comes from a third world country regardless where it's sold.

weird!....my brother told me that he had read somewhere recently that '80's touring shoes were suddenly fashionable and were being reproduced....makes sense in a way, I remember getting compliments for my Avocet touring shoes I commuted to work in back in the '80's...I didn't think they looked particlarly hip at the time, but a more astute (?) co-worker did...

Does this mean I should stop shopping @ WM to buy filters, anti-freeze , engine oil & gear oil for my tractor and brush hog?
