I have the opportunity to buy this Spinergy SR3 wheel for $25. The owner tells me that it does not come with a hub and the wheel has a small dent which might be fixable.

I am new to biking and am currently putting together a fixed gear track bike/commuter. Would this wheel be worth using or is it trash? What kind of hub would I need to get and how much would it run me? Thanks

if there is no hub, its just a rim then?

there is a hub in the picture
it looks like there is no axle/bearings in the hub though? is that what you mean?

So the owner is going to disassemble this wheel and give you the rim and spokes but not the hub? You can find better deals on new rims if you have to buy a hub anyway. You will feel better about using something you know is good rather than something that is described as 'might' be able to fix.

Ya, you get what you pay for on deals like that.

No.

Just a guess, but maybe the OP meant it comes with no "axle". No hub makes no sense. Probably not worth it for a single wheel unless you were matching a similar rear wheel.

That wheel has a hub, but no axle or bearings. Maybe the freewheel body is missing as well, but unless it's a track wheel (unlikely) it is not usable for a fixed gear even if you replace the axle and bearings. And it has a dent in the rim.
Toss it in the dumpster.
