Mountain Biking - For a m8...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

my friend is looking into buying a bike... He is looking for a hardtail, He weighs about 10 stone and wants a bike that will stand up to a few 2 foot jumps and has a solid frame. He wants the bike as more of a project than to ride, he loves upgrading and customizing things. Its his first proper bike, and he has about £500 to spend. I suggested a Specialized Hardrock Sport.... He wants to use it for XC and aggressive XC.. What would you suggest for him?

500.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 872.892 USD United States Dollars
I just did the above currency conversion. Does that sound about right?
If so, why not go up to the Rockhopper Pro Disc. MSRP is$880, (Stateside anyways). Great bike!
Now, if he thinks he's going to start jumping higher, then I'd recommend the P.2.
There are other brands as well, but I stuck with Specialized since that's what I like and what you suggested.

yeh thats about right i think A2... I didnt suggest the Rockhopper because i thought it was purely XC.. He's planning on jumping really high once he gets into it though.. So im not really sure, Ill mention the rockhopper and the P2... There are no price listings on the specialized site for the Uk so its hard to find bikes under £500 :(

Little hint! The prices ARE on the US site. I opened two windows, one with the US website and the other with the UK one. Just to make sure the models were the same.

I also looked at that, I was looking at the Hardrock Sport disc (£400) and the Hardrock pro Which is supposedly £349 when converted from USD to GBP.. Surely the Pro Hardrock should be more expensive? Something isnt right her, and that rock hopper u suggested seems very cheap for the componenetry on it...

I do not see a 'Sport disc' model on the specialized website. Are you sure you're not getting the model names messed up?

Yes, I see them on the UK site, but not the on the US site (which is where we're getting the prices, correct?)
Or am I missing something here?

Regions of sales. Most bike companies have different bikes for different countries...even Canada and the states have different 'versions' of their bikes.
