I've narrowed down my choices for a new road bike to a Trek 5500,Giant TCR 0 or maybe an Orbea. Are the new Bianchi bikes worth checking out?I heard they had problems with the frames cracking.

Correct, Bianchi has had problems with cracking in the head tube area, as well as the bottom bracket area, on the higher priced models (EV2, EV3).

I owned a steel Bianchi for 8 years with no problems, but what turned me off on Bianchi was the lifetime warranty was reduced to only two years! No way I was going to buy a high end bike with only a two year warranty on the frame.

A company with 118 years of experience could do better than a two year warranty!

As East Coast mentioned, their higher end alu frames were somewhat prone to cracking. However, I've seen a fair number of Trek 5000-series models with cracks in the bottom bracket area and in the chainstay as well. The chainstay failures were due to extreme cases of chainsuck, though.

Problems with EV2 for sure. The EV3 and EV4 do not have the cracking issue.

My local bike shop has Bianchi after a long relationship with them. There was a customer that bought a high end Bianchi and was told lifetime warrantee. When the frame failed, he returned the bike and the bike shop "ate" the new frame because Bianchi didn't bother to communicate their change in warrantee. I have always loved Bianchi and own a great 1982. Would not buy a new one.
