Beautiful ride today. Figured I would share it with you all. Click this link (http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5780784) for the map and ride info.....
The ride took me from Avon Ohio east through Westlake into Rocky River then I took the Metro Parks up to Berea. Once in Berea I simply traced my route through the park but I came home by way of Lake Road which follows the Lake.

Thanks for the kind words on the bike guys. I primarily posted the pics because most everyone I talk to have a habit of making "that" face when I say I live in Cleveland. I wanted to show that we have lots of very nice and accessible roads to ride on right in and around Cleveland.

Doesn't Avon have those roads with bike lanes that have sign posted that say "No bicycles on pavement"?

Great Pics!
Cleveland has one heck of a metropark system, not to mention the Cuyahoga Valley Park, has well---it is a Federal PArk. I too like to ride Lake Road. (I am a plodder, you all ride much, much faster.)
Thanks for shairng the pics and your ride.

That would be Avon Lake. Our neighbor to the North. I have never been hassled by the police there at all for riding on the roads though.

Avon Lake, where I live. Nice pics Gary. I just wish I didn't see them every ride. I wish I could remember the backroads that I've been on in Medina county, else I'd have more fun.
P.S: I saw you today riding West down Lake in Sheffield Lake. I was coming from Lorain from my commencement.

I went to high school in Rocky River (twenty years ago!) and used ride the metroparks, which were amazing. My appreciation for them has only grown, as here in Chicago we have nothing that's anywhere as nice to ride. We have the lakefront path, but it's so ridiculously crowded during the summer. Of course, when I ride to work at 7:00 in the morning and the lake is sparkling on my left, it's pretty nice (and uncrowded) here.
But, the metroparks are a real gem. Don't underestimate the gift that you have there.

How is it riding on those narrow, shoulderless roads? I always enjoyed roads like that back in my motorcycling days, but am a bit leery of them when on a bicycle. I hate holding up traffic and always like a road where I have a chance to occasionally get off the roadway and let people pass.

never forget that you have all the rights as the motorist does on the roads. Take your 1/3 of the lane and force the cars to give you room when they pass. If you stay to far right on the edge of the road the cars will invade your safe space.

If you're not careful, you're going to fool people into thinking that Cleveland is actually a nice place.

If not for the 6 month winter it may be the perfect place to be. I have lived in 8 different states in the past 12 years and I have to tell you this area ranks right up with our favorites so far. After a 55 mile ride yesterday morning with a local club the family and I went to Ceder Point amusement park which I think EVERYONE agrees is the BEST coaster park in the nation. After riding the rides for a few hours we had a beach volley ball game on a perfectly raked beach ........ There are worse places to be....
I grew up in Ohio and went to Case Western Reserve University for undergrad and then two years of law school (finished back home in North Carolina at UNC). This is a happy thread so I won't let loose with my torrent of disdain for Cleveland and Ohio - save the Buckeyes football!

It's like a 90,000 sq. foot roller coaster ride.
They are also trying to make a velodrome here.

Grew up in Mansfield. CEDAR POINT is Americas Roller Coast. Most of the riding I did back then ( 60's) was on SR 430 and 42 and the roads in the east part of Mansfield. We didn't have bike paths on those days just wherever we had to be we went on some really scary roads but still rode our middleweight Schwinns everywhere. Heck we even rode them in the woods and made our own jumps. Didn't know a thing about BMX just catching air was fun.

I usually ride solo. Been starting to ride with the Spin guys on weds. nights though. I think I've ridden through elyria once. Do most of my riding in millstream/RR reservation. As well as Hinckley or Columbia township for country rides. Maybe we could meet up sometime near Westlake.

That doesn't look like the Cleveland I used to see when I drove across the border from Erie, PA. I mostly remember the grimy industrial looking parts of town on the eastern side of the city. its always a bit of an eye-opener to see the rest of the story, so to speak. Looks like a great place to ride.

I was going to take a camera to represent the east side today. but rain was threatening and I don't yet have a decent way to carry it other than in a backpack. It started off cloudy, but ended up being beautiful, and my route took me to some places I've never been before out past the Holden Arboretum. Even though I live here, I was wondering if I had gotten lost and ended up someplace better.
For east side riders, I recommend it highly! Here is the complete route (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/oh/euclid/199021865136). You can skip all the parts in Euclid ;)
