I've been looking around for endurance(12 and 24 hr) road events. Are there any sites other than ultracycling.com that list these? Seems like there are very few of these compared to mtb 24hr events...

I'd try the long distance forum. From my understanding randonneuring is about as close as you are going to get. The brevets around here seem to be timed and placed AFAIK (http://www.sfrandonneurs.org).
You're not likely to find the same race atmosphere as you would at either 24hr MTB races or regular road events, but it's a start.
Edit: Disclaimer, my knowledge of randonneuring is second hand, limited to conversations with an old riding buddy who was kind of into it.

These are not races, but you do have to reach each "control" within a prescribed time.
A Fleche will probably fit the bill for a 24hr road event.

how far are you willing to travel? I know there is the Adirondack 540 which is a RAAM qualifier event

Pretty cool talking to my grandad about TT's back in his day in Ireland. Sport was hugely popular in Ireland in the 30's. Mass start races were regularly 300 to 400 riders he said.
TT's were totally different too. They'd have shorter ones, which were over a set distance, such as our 'gold standard' 40km. But their 'gold standard' TT was the 12 hour -- a set time, and distance covered decides the winner.
12 hours! I seem to recall him saying he did in the high 200's (miles) which is freakin' fast when you consider their bikes weighed about 30 lbs probably.

And fixed gear! In the UK, you even had to wear a Jacket whilst competing....
