I want to say first that I'm extremely grateful to everyone who has responded to other threads I've posted in this forum. This is an excellent resource!
The issue: Now that the bottom cup on the 20-plus-year-old threaded headset on my 1984 Bianchi Campione D'Italia has become pitted and needs replacing I've decided I'd best prepare for a time when my bottom bracket may need to be updated. Instead of relying on the catalogues on the counter of my LBS, which seem mostly Campy-free, though, I figured I'd like to go the Ebay route.
The question: I'm a clueless neophyte. How do I figure out what specifications are required for a bottom bracket on my bike? I know that I'm using a square taper one, because I ordered a crankset for it last year and that was indeed the right choice, but beyond that I know nothing. Italian or English? Size? Length? Etcetera? How do you learn all of this? Is there a standard for my particular year and model of Bianchi?
