Commuting - Yesterday I was an Icerider

I don't meaning that I rode on ice. I mean that I was covered with a thin sheet of ice. I had freezing rain for my commute home yesterday. I thought I was going to arrive home freezing cold but the the freezing rain did not soak thru my clothes and in fact, the thin layer of ice that formed was an excellent wind block. The worst part was the visibility as I had to keep scaping the ice off my glasses. Other than that it was a very enjoyable ride home.

Bob, one thing I absolutely love about cycling in the cold is the way it warms you up. Once heated up, I sense the cold, but don't really feel it. It's exhilirating.

Reading your post reminded me of a comment that I have read over and over since I began trying to get into shape and loose weight.

"Your body is like a furnace..." This was actually in the context of burning calories, but it really does apply here too. Only my toes get cold enough to distract me a bit (mainly when its around zero degrees).

When I tell folks about the exhilaration of ICE BIKING in the snow they think I'm nuts. Well, everyone except the folks that ski. They seem to have an application for winter weather and snow that others who don't have an outside winter sport interest don't have.
