Hi,
I've got a steel frame LeMond with maybe 3000 miles on it. It's a 10spd Shimano drive train with external BB bearing cups.
I've been riding it quite a lot in the past few weeks and have noticed a new "creaking" sound that happens under high torque situations. The sound is most dominant when my left crank is at the 11:00 position, but is also heard when the right crank is at 1:00. I'm a big 6'3 210lbs rider and climb a lot of hills. I've worn out the old fashioned square taper spindles before with the riding I do. I'm new to external BB, and am unfamiliar with their maintenance.
During my ride to work I pulled over and tightened my crank bolts with my multi-tool. It's hard to tell if that helped, I think it may have. Am I on the right track with the chain rings or is something else involved?
Thanks
-Sean
