Foo - I'm 21 and still haven't gotten drunk.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It's been a week, and still no akeehawl. I'm not cool I guess. This whole keeping my body healthy thing is pretty cool.

Even better! I'll add extra pina and extra virgin to it.

Good on you Jon. I understand the temptation, but I have to say from personal experience, that it is:
A.) Overrated
B.) One more thing that can complicate life unnecessarily
Some folks can handle it well (like Tude), and others... well, some not so well.

Both true, but it has social components that are worth understanding. Fairly important business deals can involve booze, and it's not just because people are acting like idiots or have little concern for their health.
You're a smart kid IMHO.
you have a very unique outlook.

I gave up alcohol last year just before Christmas. Haven't had any since.

Good for you, Jon. Understand, though, that there is such a thing as moderation. Most of us are capable of having a glass of wine or a couple of beers with dinner and not becoming raving lunatics.
Ben Franklin said, "wine...a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy."

ok enjoy. I am not going to say congrats because this is right up there with me saying "I haven't had turnip in 10 years"...in moderation alcohol can be fun and at times a good social exercise.
Enjoy yourself not drinking. I will enjoy myself (and my fiance) with some beer tonight
Never ever?
Walk into any bar, slap a twenty down, and make the same claim. You'll be fixed right up in about 10 mins.

oh well more guinness for me
In seriousness, I have to agree with a lot of posters here. A lot of young people (boy, that makes me sound old) seem to think that getting drunk is, itself, the point. If that were the case, you could just sit alone at home with a jug of the blandest, cheapest, strongest liquor, and have a grand ol' time. However, in real life, that tends to be a symptom of a severe depression. :P
Having a few drinks with a/some friend(s) can be fun, though. Again, not for the express purpose of getting drunk, but just as a part of the evening. Have something that tastes good, sit back, relax, and have a good time. No big deal.
Of course, if you choose to specifically excise any and all alcohol from your diet, that's fine, too.

I would say you're more of a man than me, but this week I had rhubarb for the first time in over 20 years. You should post in another 10 years so we can see how you turned out.
Whether it's booze, food, cycling, or whatever, it's really not that important what you're doing at any instant in time. It's what you sustain year after year.
Why so extreme? Why do you have to get drunk to drink? It only works the other way around. I understand not drinking if you don't know how to do so in moderation. It's not an on-off switch. If you drink, you're not suddenly drunk. It takes most of us more than one drink to get there.

I, on the other hand, am a big fan of binge drinking every so often.

I'm 44 and haven't been sober since 12 ...:D
O.K. that's a lie. But I did quit alcohol in '99 ... I developed a beer gut and didn't like it.
I'm much fitter these days; getting drunk is overrated anyway, Jon. There are so many
better things to do with your time ... and you'll be able to remember them! :D

29 and never been drunk, with no plans to be. Actually, I've never had much alcohol at all. What I have tried tasted terrible to me, so I figured there was no need to bother.

Those braincells were only going to die from lack of use anyways.:D
