Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Mavic cxp 23

I just got a new set of Mavic cxp 23's for yellow bike. I got them on the bike shop's recommendation. The last review I have seen (dating back to 2002) said the rear wheel doesn't hold true. Has anyone here used this wheelset? If so, how did they hold up? They seem like they are smooth riding so far and they came with 105 hubs.

I have a bud that used them on his Cannondale R500. I believe his bike was about a 96. He's was only about 150lbs and had plenty of trouble with them. Had them rebuilt after about a year of hassles. That was about 2,000 miles a year.



Hasn't been on the bike since but about 5 times so not sure how they would be by now!:D

Hmmmm, now that I think about it, maybe his were cxp 21's?.............Either way, maybe very similar in design.

In the late 90s I had a pair of deep-section cxp30s (not sure how these older wheels compare to the 23s) built up with ultegra hubs. Strongest wheels I've ever owned. I maybe trued them once or twice after crashes. Keep in mind I had friend build them for me who was an olympic certified mechanic.

The cxp30-33 are designed for bigger riders and rougher conditions. The CXP21-23's are a lighter based wheel and are going to be tougher to stay true for a clyde. I looked into them before I eventually went with my Velocity's. I almost went with the CXP33's, but they were a little bit more expensive.

I have some cxp30's. Just about identical to the Deep V in size. I think I've read they have internal eyelets where the Deep V doesn't. But I've had more luck wiht the V's. I think the 21-23' were the low profile aero rim, 23mm while the cxp 30'sa dn Deep V's are 300 high

I have been running CXP-22's with Ultegra hubs and I have not had a problem. Hit plenty of bumps, potholes, sticks rocks, broken tile, you name it. No problem for me so far, they appear very strong. I only have about 350 miles, so time will tell. I am around 280#'s at the present.
