Are you referring to a freewheel or a cassette? A six speed freewheel should not be hard to find, my LBS stocks them, new Shimano. If its a freewheel, try a different LBS or look on-line.
A six speed cassette is quite hard to come by.

Try eBay; put "freewheel 6" into the search box. Typical price will be 7-15 bucks. And you don't need a Shimano, although they're real common ... Suntour was prominent then, and Sachs too.

And by the way, if it's 6-speed Shimano 600, it's not a cassette, but a threaded freewheel ...

Will you be ready to ride somewhere in the area in July? August?

Not true... I have a NOS Shimano 600 EX 6 speed cassette in front of me right now. OP , if this is what you are looking for PM me.

+1, you beat me to it! DongDong, determine if you have a freewheel or a cassette. If it's a cassette, contact mainducoyote because these things are rare.

My bad ... I should have remembered that, because I've got a 6-speed Dura Ace cassette from 1982 on one of my bikes ...

That said, I'll bet that it's a freewheel.;)

Hey Robbie, I was cleared to get back on the bikes WAY ahead of schedule. The doc says I set some sort of record for recovery from rotator cuff surgery. I just got back on the bikes last weekend, but only road, no mountain biking for another 2 months at least. My road rides are very small distances and no speed. The bones still hurt where they cut and polished. But I should be up to some decent short rides, like 25 miles by July certainly by August.
Thanks for asking.

Rocco, I'll let you know about riding the Tobacco Trail from the Durham Bulls ballpark.

And DongDong, I've got a 6-speed cluster that slides onto Shimano splines if you need one. Perhaps we can trade something or other.
