Foo - I may be getting too tan for my own good

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm dark/olive skinned to being with, even though I'm most Irish with mutt thrown in. Anyway, when I moved out here to California last year... apparently I "blend" well because people keep thinking I'm Hispanic - ergo, other Hispanics think I look that way LOL

I was at the checkout in Rite-Aid in downtown Sac last summer and the clerk was a middle-aged Hispanic woman who said "Are you from Fresno? You look like you're related to so-and-so." (There are a lot of Mexican farm workers in the Central San Joaquin Valley). I laughed it off and said "No, I'm from Iowa originally."

Well, today I was walking over to Fleet Feet on J Street in Midtown Sac, and a guy handing out literature on one of the street corners addressed me first in Spanish... and when I didn't respond he switched to English. LOL.

So I 'blend'. This is not a bad thing. :D

I hear you on that. I'm Japanese, but I can pull off being Mexican or Filipino depending on hair style with the amount of tanning I get.

Its really interesting seeing the ethnic mixes here in California, especially in Sacramento, which is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Its very cool!

With the right facial hair length (whcih I never let get there), I can pull off Mexican, no problemo. I actually noticed a nice little jersey tan action going after the winter hibernation up in the east coast.

I can never be anything but white, no matter how hard I try. When I get more sun than normal I just get red and peeling and look like a burnt white man.

Too tan for your own good? Whatsa matter -- can't get a good job?

I joke with my friends that that's the very reason I'm in my situation!

Interesting poll in S. Fl came out yesterday, hardly a surprise but 58% of people speak Spanish here of that 25% don't speak any English at all and another 23% don't speak any Spanish at all. Seems to me a failure to communicate.

I don't think of Jesus, so much as...Eh, almost. Most of them have fuller upper-lip hair, and I can't do the little braids.

Still no cool hat, either.

I freaking tan so easily, I can get tan lines sitting in a lightless closet in a dark basement. I think I tan from flourescent lights, even (I work in an office). :thumb:

I have to say that the though crossed my mind too :D

Lucky. I skip straight to "red and peeling".

Almost all of my friends have that problem. They spray sunscreen once an hour, miss a spot with the sunscreen spray and then they moan about it after we get back from the beach. Sometimes I wonder what makes them go back to the beach in the first place?
