Want to make sure the lens I rented is compatible with the nikon d60.

Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX
I'm pretty sure all DX lenses work on the nikons. But this is a lower end nikon. I wanted to make sure just in case.
Is it worth it to also get a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF? or will the 18-70 suffice?

Yes, it will work.
Do you have any other glass besides the 18/70mm?

Nope it was all that I could rent.... oh well. Didn't even have a 18-55mm stock lens.

What do you plan on shooting with the rental?
Everything I see from here to idaho, through utah and nevada, and back. :p
Did you get a car charger for the battery? You can use Nevada to charge the battery.

I have a car power inverter lined up for camera charging, plus a laptop to offload photos. :D:D

Glad you went Nikon, Pheard. (Remember www.Nikonians.org is your friend! :))
While that lens is a consumer lens, I would not call it a lower end Nikkor. It will definately perform. It was introduced with the D70 but it performed marvelously and is a great wide angle to short tele lens for Nikon DSLRs on a budget.
Thom Hogan's review of that lens here: http://www.bythom.com/1870lens.htm

Pheard, the 18-70 will work fine on a D60 and it's a good general use lens. I'm thinking of replacing my 18-55 with one.
The key is to look for the AF-S designation. This means the lens has its own autofocus motor. The D40 and D60 don't have in-body auto-focus motors to drive the lens. Most other lenses will work on these two cameras, but without auto-focus..
Not much point in renting a 50 F/1.4 when you can buy the 50 F/1.8 for a little over $100. Neither of these are AF-S however.
