Mountain Biking - What's your favorite catalog company for bike parts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If you buy bikes or parts through the mail, with which catalog company do you do business? (that was a bit of grammatical gymnastics to avoid ending that sentence with a preposition, ha!)

I've only used Performance because I've been a cyclist for a short time (I'm a runner by nature and for running I use RoadRunner Sports)

95% of my spending is at my LBS, i would hate to see another local bike shop close, so i try to support them as much as i can. I will only go mail order when there is a savings of more then 25% then the LBS, or when my LBS cant get what i want in. When i do go mail order, i usualy go thru aardvark cycles, cose there a local mail order house, and i can pick up the shipment the next day http://www.bikeforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

I use any catalog I can get, but mostly Bike Nashbar and Performance. The internet has a bunch of sites you can browse or purchase something. I would prefer local bike shops, but there are only 3 small shops around where I live, and they have limited stock.

i use nashbar and performance. Both have deals that my local LBS can't beat. For high end tech stuff i generally go to my LBS simply because it is easier to address issues with equipment that way.

The only time I use catalogs is when I need something that my lbs doesn't have & / or won't order for me. I've used Nashbar, Performance, Colorado Cyclist & Tri-athelete Zombies. They're all OK.

Hey try this site out...it is a price search engine for bike stuff. It looks at 36 websites including Nashbar for the best price. It is slow so make sure you have some time when you are looking..it also helps to know exactly what you are looking for. http://www.ifyoulike.com/cgi-bin/bike.cgi
Have fun

Price Point is the best catalog. They send you a free color catalog with awesome deals in it. So give it a try.

I only buy from Price Point and Super Go Bikes, they both have great prices and will also price match if you find an item less in a different catalog.

My favorite catalog is QBP. :D When I can't find something in there I generally go with Pricepoint. Jenson USA (www.jensonusa.com) just started a new pricing system that may turn out to be pretty hard to beat. Even though it was a fixed price I ordered a new Giro E2 from them a couple of days ago, it cost $79 with free shipping. Hard to resist.

Whats wrong with digging up an old thread? seems like no matter what some people do, other people are just gonna grill you... If someone started up a new thread along the same lines, someone else would probably post a reply telling them to use the search function..

Not trying to start a fight, I just want to know and understand your reasoning. I'm on another forum where the members absolutely freak (much like yourself) if a new thread is opened for a topic already discussed/covered. They prefer that the old thread continue. They even have a "REPOST" smilie that they love to use for just that occasion.

Raiyn

Because the topic has been covered a LOT more recently and the ORIGINAL poster obivously doesn't give a rats rear anymore. There's a reason why the search only goes back so far and this is it.

old threads....new ideas from the new people.

Who's not looking for the best deals or newest places to shop?

It's been covered a LOT more recently that's why you shoukld have looked for a newer thread rather than dig up a thread that's been dead for 5 YEARS This is something that gets covered at least once a month you didn't have to go back five years to reply to this one

Im sure if this was a huge deal, the mods would delete old threads, would they not?

BTI is the best. :D

I bought 95% of the parts to build my bike from the shop. I just built my new bike today! The only thing I need is an x.9 med cage rd, which I cant find anywhere.

I am always searching new bike catalogs and suppliers but I always seem to come
back to nashbar and performance. I do try to support local shops when possible.
Its always good to search for new stuff but at least we know we have these 2 solid
sources Ride on:-)

I like Nashbar, Performance, and Cambria. Supergo just turns me off for some reason; no idea why.

As to supporting LBS's, I try, but it's getting harder and harder to do. I needed new shoes lately and the shop didn't stock a single pair in my size. Well, that's not unexpected since I have pretty small feet. My wife wanted shoes and even though her feet are completely average sized and they normally stock her size, they were sold out. Hmmm...so if you have an odd size, they don't stock it. If you have a normal size, they are out. Ok...

So how about shorts and jerseys. Wadda ya got? The cheapest shorts in the place were $65 and were paper thin. The only jersey that was under $75 was only available in XXS and XXL. I went to performancebike.com and bought a pair of heavyweight shorts and two jerseys for $78 total (including shipping).

Yeah, I wish I could support a LBS but they sure don't make it easy.
