Classic & Vintage - What's it worth subforum?

I just waded through the suggestions for the “what’s it worth sticky” and rather than hijack that thread offer this:

I frequent another forum on another of my addictions, vintage audio equipment. They would also periodically have heated debates on the value of "what's it worth" threads. Their answer was to create a "what's it worth" sub forum to allow those who wanted to participate to do so while not "cluttering" up the other forums.

Not a bad idea at that.

Perhaps it can be set up so that new threads can be started by donating members (those who do not have the red star would still be able to give value input), to make up for the increase in bandwidth from the new posts and also to assist in supporting Bike Forums.

That's a good idea.

I wonder if it will actually work. Not many people are interested in pricing other people's stuff. What could happen is that people will post there, and when they receive no useful answers, they'll cross-post to other fora.

Still, I think it should be tried. I'm probably being pessimistic about it.

Mods, please consider this, although it is good to mention there are at least two types of "what it's worth threads": first the ones that irritate us-- the finders of bikes hoping to strike a quick buck, and second, the relative newbie, looking to buy a bike and hoping to avoid being ripped off. I'd hate to get rid of the second of these two broad types and could often care less about the first.

Some of us like the old bikes and just want some info on something we can't seem to find info on. :)

I'l admit, found this forum when trying to find if the bike I picked up cheap was 'worth anything'. Now rather then looking to sell the bikes I find, they (theres alot now) are getting looked after and riden.

The 'what this bike worth' threads are helpful when I buy a bike then seach for it and I find some one has all ready replied with information about a bike company with intresting facts about the bike.

Although the op's in the thread may be worthless, the replies from you vintage bike experts are golden

I agree with the OP's suggestion and I brought it up a while back (thought I probably didn't create a new thread for the topic...) There is a similar subforum at BMX museum for "what is this / what's it worth" type questions and it's pretty handy. It's always fun to give smartass answers, but this would be better IMO.
