A few weeks time and I will be doing the nightmare ride with a few other persons. One of which is my mate Martyn. It will be a road ride and he rides MTB so a change of tyres will be up for him and a Checkover on his bike. This ride will not be a problem for him- providing the bike does not let him down. I recently put new cables on his bike and a new crankset. But I will have to check the rest of his bike over. He will have a new seat post tomorrow as he broke his last weekend. "I was just riding along and the saddle moved and when I stood up it fell off". Nice simple explanation but there has to be another reason. Now Martyn is 110kgs so I should think that has a a lot to do with it. But he is 6'6" so possibly a bit overweight but the only place it is apparant is on the waist. He has a beer belly to be proud of but the rest of him is in proportion. Only problem is he is heavy and this will cause a few other problems. I know his wheels are not that good- too much wear on the rims again- so I will be loaning him a pair of Light wheels. 94 XTR hubs and 36 spokes to Mavic 217 rims. Had these wheels for years and they are good and strong. Better check his headset at the same time as I replaced that last year and I bet it hasn't been greased since- and then the Brakes. As he is borrowing my wheels- he will get a new set of brake blocks- whether he needs them or not.

Not much left for him to worry about- or me for that matter- but just a timely reminder to those of you training for that Longest ride you have ever done- Don't just get yourself fit- Make certain the bike can do the distance aswell.

Stapfam:

Martin is a fortunate man to say the least (sans beer belly)! I've got a great seat. Sounds like if I sent it over to you I would get back a pretty good mountain bike. I here you can get more for British Sterling today than the US Dollar!
