Southern California - Santa Monica Mountains 5/31

I'm meeting up with my wife's uncle and his friends for a ride in the Santa Monica Mountains tomorrow morning. It looks like we're going to meet at Topanga and PCH at 7am then head into the mountains for some good climbing. My guess is 50-60 miles worth. Just wanted to see if anyone here wants to join us. If so, post here and I'll give you the details when I get them.

PCH PAVING PROJECT CLOSURES SCHEDULED

MALIBU – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close
one lane of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) at the following times and
locations nightly from Sunday, June 1 through Friday, June 6:

· 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., from about a half mile north of La Tuna Canyon to
Sunset Boulevard, paving (Sunday through Thursday only);
· 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Cross Creek to Sunset Boulevard, installation of
underground sensors;
· 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., La Tuna Canyon to Sunset Boulevard, digouts (Sunday
through Thursday only).

The closures are related to a $7 million, 11.6-mile paving project from
Malibu Lagoon Bridge to the McClure Tunnel. Work consists of removing
existing concrete pavement and replacing it with Rubberized Asphalt
Concrete (RAC), including removing and replacing raised pavement markers,
traffic striping and markings; adjusting manhole cover heights; and
modifying loop detectors (speed sensors embedded in the roadway). The
project is expected to complete by early 2009.

Rubberized Asphalt Concrete overlay is more durable and longer-lasting than
conventional
asphalt and thus requires less maintenance. RAC is not only cost-effective
but can also
reduce noise and provide significant environmental benefits in its use of
old tires as a
component. This RAC project will preserve the roadway and provide a
smoother, safer
driving surface for motorists.

PCH is still chewed up completely there. Just head up into Topanga straight away over to Mulholland and you'll be fine.

Thanks. His plans are to go up Fernwood, but I can't find that on a map. Anybody know what he's talking about?

Yep, it's in Topanga. It's right by the liquor store and natural food store. Have fun that climb and wave to my dog as you pass my place.

Once you're up there you can cut over and go down Stunt or Piuma.
