Living Car Free - Why is riding a bike not part of their solution?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I guess it's a new site. I just had to post on their forums that riding a bike might be part of the solution.

My guess is that this site is funded by Exxon Mobil. Or hopes to be.

It's registered to Swiss America Trading Corp. I assumed an oil company also.

Three-step plan to drive oil/gas prices down fast!
Contact your elected officials to request three immediate actions;

1) DRILL FOR OIL NOW!
Approve fast-track legislation to begin extracting oil and natural gas from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico, reducing foreign dependence.

2) REFINE MORE OIL NOW!
Approve fast-track legislation to build at least four new, strategically placed oil refineries throughout the U.S. as well as building new pipeline infrastructure to deliver finished product throughout the U.S.

3) STRONG US DOLLAR NOW!
Demand the federal government puts a freeze on new spending and reduces our $9.4 trillion national debt and deficits. This action will immediately strengthen the dollar and help reduce inflation.

Those who have long commutes and depend on their cars for much of their daily routine are often the first to suggest more drilling or other methods to drop the price of fuel. Those who have started to reduce their dependency on motor vehicles will suggest smaller, more efficient cars, hybrids and alternate fuel vehicles, better trip planning and the like. Those who are car-light will add carpooling, improved transit, walking and cycling to the list. Most of those who are car-free either don't care or will gloat about their lifestyle.

Funny how they want a strong U.S. Dollar but this will require the war to end! I guess these folks are war hawks who want to keep the war going and a strong dollar at the same time. Dreamers.

These people are the same supply side believers who got us into this mess. When gas prices were low, they were the last ones looking for alternative or conservation. Now it's too late.

They think if we increase the supply of oil, the price will go down and we'll all be happy. The problem with this thinking is that world demand increased to the point where all our drilling will not lower the price of imported oil. We're stuck with high prices from here on and supply side economics will not bring the price of gas down ever again.

Oh dear, what propaganda. You were brave to post there urban_assault. Unfortunately, their heads are still stuck in the sand if they think we can still continue our current way of life indefinitely.

That site is junk. Solution to the oil problem is more oil? right.

What do you expect from a website that quotes Larry Craig?

BTW, Swiss America is a manufacturer of gold coins and a sponsor of nearly every far-right wing website and radio host. Michael Savage often endorses them personally.

I agree, but when I had a long commute my solution was to find another job.

Concerning the site, like many here I believe that pumping more oil as a solution to our oil problem is like helping an obese person by giving him more junk food. Sure, he'll be happy while he's eating it, but it will only make him more obese. And eventually his health will require he either give it up or die, and by then giving up junk food will be next to impossible for him.

There is alot of that attitude.

The "Gas is going up and up - what are you going to do about it for me gov't? Because I'm sure as hell not going to change my behavior!"

That web site is trash.

I saw something recently that I really like and makes a lot of sense to me:

"We don't have an oil supply problem, we have an oil demand problem."

This article offers no new "solution" to the oil problem. This is just big oil's scream to allow and fund more drilling so that America and the world can continue to be slaves to oil.

We have to get beyond this old-world power source and move on to something better. Too many people have died in wars and conflicts over the struggle for petrolium. Today, oil costs are causing pain and suffering to the poor and impovershed peoples of the world who can neither afford fuel or food.

Time to move on. Digging deeper for more oil is not the solution.

That's Craig R. Smith's theory. He's peddling the abiotic oil theory, that oil is not created from biological sources and thus is potentially unlimited in quantity.

Interesting perspectives here... The Oil Drum (http://http://www.theoildrum.com/story/2005/11/4/15537/8056)

Craig R. Smith is President and CEO of Swiss America Trading Corporation, an investment firm specializing in United States gold and silver coins. http://http://www.craigrsmith.com/about.php

He wrote a book called "Black Gold Stranglehold "with Jerome Corsi. Corsi was a co-author of "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry" :twitchy:
