OK ... This one was interesting. 100.3 miles, 4:34 saddle time, 22.0 avg. mph. 5:11 total time with breaks. This was only my second century.
And you guys wanted me to do both rides. Yea right. And my heart would have expolded between the 2nd and 3rd stops.
I'm going to take a long shower and a nap.:twitchy:

Damn Cy ..., ..., Damn. That's wicked. I don't think I'm capable. :thumb:
Oh wait a minute ... how long were your breaks?
Ahhh.... I still don't think I could have done it.

Oh wait a minute ... how long were your breaks?
In a few cases, too long. It always took a mile or two to get the legs going again.
Then again, I told aham23 in the other thread that I was going to take it easy on this ride. So much for that once the first few fast pulls down Harmony Road were made. We all went into competitive mode or something.

Nice Work!!!!
I completed the ride in 5:12. I thought I would really be hurting after yesterdays ride but I felt pretty good.

Nice job CC...#'s I could only dream about.
And may I say...
CyLowe, you're really all over it this season dude!
Congrats on taking it up a notch.
Just don't forget us little and slow people now that you're up there in recursive and Speedy McAwesome territory,
My compliments sir.

Wow, outstanding numbers all. I am very jealous. It was a perfect day for a ride and all I got was my lousy little commute. Oh well, only one more month of working weekends.

The CAT 6 report...
Rolled out solo about 8:30ish. Not before ripping my presta valve from the tube. (happened same time last year). Felt very good to the first rest stop. Then the legs grew tired and heavy after the rest stop in Chemung. I'm still working on my speed. It has gone up so I'm going in the right direction.
63 miles in four hours. For those who did the 100 in five hours, would it be possible to do the same pace if you rode solo? A great day for a ride. Next up...BCLC Ramble in Wilmot WI.

oh gosh you guys!!, I didn't look at my watch when I went in... I looked at my average, it was 18.3, holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, no pun intended!!!:D Best century and ride I've ever had. Riding time was somewhere around 5:30 I guess... not sure... I'm guessing.
I have to say it was such a pleasure meeting everyone. You're all so very cute, awesome riders, nice, and so fun... and it was such a blast today!! You guys were great... I enjoyed all of the 15 miles that I kept up with you in the beginning :innocent:... or was it 10, or 5 perhaps?, LOL!!
SmokinMiles... you were great to ride with:D So much fun to catch up to you again... this time on wheels :giver:
Rowdy... thanks for pulling like 85% of the way:thumb: You were great... and apparently a BT'er as well... I sent you back an inspire.
... you all were great, absolutely a pleasure meeting all of you...:p
and speaking for the bf Jim as he's eating something over on my couch and drinking a dark beer, he says you guys are great, and he had a blast today. He loves to ride fast, and met his match I think :) He says if you're up for more rides or you need some biking company, he'd be glad to come along. His email is jgetz61@att.net... he is also racebrat61 on here, but he doesn't post often.
Thanks everyone... what a great day. ... and psimet we stopped at Performance in Schaumburg and they didn't have the compact in stock. I will probably have to order one online... thanks for the tips on that compact stuff/gear, etc.
Great day guys... you all rock!:D

Nice numbers guys, anything near 5 hours is good in my book.
I really had to dig deep today, much harder than I did at my 40k time trial. I took a lot of pulls, tried a 2 man breakaway ... WTF? and then had to do 2 serious, heavy duty bridges, 1 a 2-man into a 6-man group. When we finally caught them they said "Damn, we thought you guys were long gone." There is no way I would have held on if I wasn't fresh. No stinkin way. This was the hardest ride I have ever had ... by a lot!
I'm still sore and need to sleep. ;)

No way. Not without a perpetual tailwind and some EPO.
We were working together the whole time. Mega long pulls from racebrat61 during the first 80 miles helped out considerably, but we all did our share of taking the front.
We were all digging pretty deep. My favorite part was falling back on the long hill up the valley late in the ride and then chasing down aham and Chuck before the top. aham took the points, but only because he's a total wheel sucker. :D

I did a few bridges as well today. It was good to feel useful. All around great weekend of riding. I put on so many miles the Garmin was smokin.

It's still bugging you that you didn't ride on Saturday, isn't it??? ;) We don't need anymore excuses:D We are happy for you that you had fresh legs and rode so awesomely today. :thumb: We still wish you would have joined us because we think you would have loved it :)
Not sure how close to 5 hrs you think is good, but I managed to crank out a 5:30ish century on tired legs. (Don't have exact time...my new Cateye apparently doesn't give ride time or I'm an idiot and can't figure it out....I was a few minutes behind whitesox so I'm going by her stats) I did way better than I expected on tired legs.
Spent the day with great folks. So fun to ride with whitesox and jimmy ...both just the best. It was really nice getting to know both of you.
I am so indebted to Voldemort, Rowdy and Jimmy who pulled my tired arse through almost the entire ride. I am truly not sure I would have done the full century had I not had them helping me out. So great to hang out with you all. I know Rowdy could have put in a much faster day....he made the ride look effortless. He's like a metronome....the most consistent rider I've seen. The exact opposite of, say, Psimet speeding, sprinting along etc. THere's no controling him :p Voldemort, you looked way too fresh post century. :thumb:
What a great day! I have grades that must be ready for tomorrow....I shudder to think what errors my students may find on their papers in this exhausted state I'm in. I am fried but it feels so good.

5:17 for me. it felt like the longest day ever though, especially after saturday.
some random notes/observations:
-most women look hawt on bikes, especially the seven dwarfs ;)
-maybe i should try some protein powder. i need to read up on re-energizing myself properly at rest stops
-while barely able to pedal the last few miles or so, seeing the triathletes running was sort of depressing
-the udder century has to have been the best and well-run organized ride i've ever done (sorry cylowe)
-yay for compact cranks. i have no clue why i didn't try this earlier.

With the 12/27 in the back, I was in the 50 up front the whole ride.
I probably would have dropped a chain, anyway, so it's just as well.
It's amazing what Saturday did to my perception of the route on Sunday. Hills? There were hills on Sunday? Where? ;)

exactly. if we all lived near madison, i'm sure all of our cycling legs would be much different.

+1 they get bug thumbs up from me too.
My stats are not that impressive ( 62 miles in 4 hrs) , but I liked every minute of it except some painful leg cramps at 30 mile mark and then one more time 3 miles before finish.

My first century without hurtin' at the end. 18.4 average, 5:20 total saddle time. No, I didn't do the masochistic Cylowe "double your pleasure, double your pain" weekend. But I'm quite happy with my results. :beer:Thanks, Rowdy, for some long pulls. Whitesox, nice to meet you, and get to know you a bit. SmokinMiles, a pleasure riding with you, as always. Psimet, you REALLY need to revise your "sales pitch" for the RAIN ride. Stressing hot, miserable, painful, never-gonna-be-nice-weather-again-for-it:eek: I hope you don't do direct sales:rolleyes: But, I'll be there, one way:giver: or the other:injured::rolleyes:

I'm doing the same detox from lying to people about these 'easy' rides.
I think telling everyone that they were on their own up in Cross Plains was a good start.
Unfortunately, I relapsed and told aham that the Udder would be a social pace. That lasted all of two roads until we started cranking along at 26 mph at mile 3. :o
My new mantra: "Here's the map and cue sheet. Good luck, people."

Don't worry Cylowe- I had your back and ran sweep for the Cross Plains ride... on Sunday afternoon. Well only 45 miles of it- but the route was swept! Sorry I missed everyone but I think my experience would have been exactly the same on Saturday as it was Sunday... solo/otb. I was wearing my Great Lakes BF jersey and the woman at the general store in Blue Mound reminded me that I missed the large group by quite some time. I told her I was the slow one.
Nice job on the route- it's nice to get all the important climbs in, but in a different order. I may try to cash in some comp time and ride the whole thing later this week.
since the sudden end of the sudden, i think the udder is my new favorite century. its flat, its fast, & its scenic ;).
this was another early rising day, up at 5 am and out the door at 5:45 am. despite leaving very early i was still late. however, the BFNIC gang, that was ready to roll before i even stood in the registration line, cut me some slack and waited.
there were some new faces, but i missed pre ride introductions and the briefing on the approach for the ride. i played catch up on intros and quickly got the idea of the ride.......destroy all legs in site. once we cleared traffic and found some straight roads it was single file and 25 mph. as Psi & Cy pushed the pace i kept thinking; "Hey, didnt these two ride yesterday??"
i had tired legs. i just spent an hour in the car. i was hurting early. i struggled all day to hold the wheel in front of me. didnt matter if it was at the front or the back of the pack. well, not all day. at the 80 mile rest stop i popped some Oreo Cookies. the fuel that powered me the second half of the 07 RAIN ride.
nearing the bottom of the only real significant roller on the route i find myself up front with The Goat. Chuck mentions, a battle for the Polka Dot Jersey. i love pink polka dots and picked the pace up a bit. as we hit the bottom of the roller Chuck takes a flyer. The Goat falls back, but he always falls back before surging past.
this time around The Goat isnt coming. i dont hear him or see him on my wheel. i focus on Chuck, but i am affraid i let him get to far. there is no way i will catch him. then, out of no where comes The Goat and he is flying. i reacted, for the first time today, at mile 90 on a hill, i grab a wheel. we soar past Chuck at 19 mph. he is crushed.
the crest is coming. i dont want to go to early. i wait, then i go. The Goat conceeds as i sprint past to take the points. i believe this puts the season totals at CyLowe 2 / aham23 1.
after that i powered up all the little rollers the route had to offer and brought home my fastest century to date.

Sunday sure was a great ride! It was great to see some familiar faces from last year, and meet some new people. I have to admit I am more of a lurker, than a poster on the forums.
This was one of my favorite rides to date, (other than losing a water bottle :o). Thanks aham23 for sticking back with me to catch the group. Unfortunately, even with clipping along at 25 mph+ we still didn't catch the group till the next stop.
This was also the first group ride I was able to stick with the group. When I looked at my average speed at the first stop, and it was over 22 mph, I was not sure if I could hold on, but I learned riding in a group is easier than trying to catch one.
I just started riding last August, so this road bike thing is new to me. This was the first ride that I didn't use a sport drink, or eat any simple carbs. My night before meal was sushi, and during the ride it was protein drinks and a couple bananas at the stops. I never bonked, and was stronger than any of my previous rides.
I finished just over 5 hr for the century, and I know if I hadn't dropped a bottle, aham23 and I would have broken the 5 hrs. I look forward to riding with you all again, and I might just give the Tuesday night ride a shot :)

Finally got the Garmin stats to upload....

Looking at the HR chart you can really see where I started to get drift in between each stop. You can also see the average HR for each section starts to dip. Also if you plot it out over time instead of distance you can see how long the stops were. 2nd and 3rd stops being the longest.

You were great out there on Sunday, for sure!:) I'm sure as you hang with the bigboys from this group, you will no doubt get faster and faster. Next year at this time, maybe I'll hook up a motor to my bike to keep up with y'all at the next Udder, LOL:innocent: Great ride... and nice meeting you finally too :)

dang, sweet stats there Psimet!! I love that MotionBased application... I so gotta get me one of those Garmin's. I like how it differentiates between moving time and total time... pretty neat.... and 20.0 avg is insane!!, that's great :) Next purchase... Garmin Edge 305:D
also, I ordered Shimano FC-R700 crank (compact). They did not have one in stock at Performance in Schaumburg... we stopped by on the way home from Udder. So I went to order it early Monday morning, and it had gone down in price even more, to $179.00!!, and then on top of a 10% coupon I had, I got it for $161.00, nice price huh!!... but here's the kicker... the next day I get an email saying it's on backorder and I won't receive it until after June 13th, argggh. So much for riding TOMRV on a double (or compact, oh well).
