Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bike Experts...will this bike hold up?

Hey guys its me again, for those who havent read my previous thread im 6'4 and a half and like 420, this is my first time seeing this kind of bike, its 64 spokes tho, so is that sturdy? are these good bikes? Let me know, peace!

If you can get it in your frame size, quite possibly. It's a brutally simple bike, and likely to be very strong. It IS a single speed cruiser, but if you are going to be riding flat ground, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As to whether the wheels will hold up.....

Well, they should. a lot depends on the quality of the rims, hubs and spokes. I'm presuming you aren't going to be curb jumping or that kind of thing. If you are going to be riding smooth pavement, etc, I don't see whay it wouldn't work, as long as it can fit you......to repeat myself....:D

yeh im scared of that 2 because im very tall idk, my LBS is very far so i emailed them yesterday about my concerns they have yet to respond, i just want to buy a bike asap, turning out to be a stresser!

Don't stress, or rush and buy a bike you'll hate to ride. That will defeat your purpose here.

If you hate the bike, you WON'T ride it. ;) If you get the bike that makes your heart race with lust every time you get it out, you will.....:D

It is pretty cheap, but since there isn't much on it to have problems with I would go for it if that's what you want. Cruisers usually only come in one frame size (around 18 inch), so it may be a little small for you. Your knees will hit the stock handlebars, but any shop should be able to help you get a regular set of riser bars for it.
Others have said, and you will find out, that you don't really know what kind of riding you will enjoy until you get out there, so it is a good idea not to spend too much money on your first bike. I think the one you posted is a good option, but you could probably find a used mountain bike on craigslist for that price. Most people need gears, especially in the beginning.

great responses, so since i weigh so much, if i bought a mountain bike off of say craigslist or ebay, would i have to get special tires? last time i rode a bike, which was8 years ago, the tire folded like a taco! so if i do have to get special tires, what should i ask for, like what Tom said, i really want to enjoy riding!

My $0.02 - though it's far I'd say get a Hard Rock (the 'workhorses' of the Clydes) at your bike shop and have them put a set of 48 spoke touring or tandom 26" wheels on. Also I doubt that bike above will fit you since you're not going to luck out with a 'one size fits all' bike ;)

I bet while those wheels are 64 spoke they'll be weaker than a set of mtb wheels IMO. Can't buy 1 good quality wheel (let alone a set) for what that whole bike is worth.

Have a good look at that frame, now look at where the seat tube and seat post are, see the little bit of white there, that's a gap, now where do you think that frame is gonna fail? Exactly. Now look up Pacific Cycle, on Yahoo or Google, they distribute such high quality brands as Mongoose, distribute not make, everything comes from the highest quality sweet shop slave labour camps in China. The earlier poster was right, this bike is a DOG!!!!!

The bike was probably $69.99 at Wally Mart, new, if it's got more then 10 miles on it, it's actually over priced. If it's got more then 100 miles on it, it's only worth the scrap metal value. For $100 or so, you can get a 1970's road bike, that you can put 20,000 miles on over 20 years, without ever needing to think about catastrophic frame failure every time you go over a bump in the road. Best part is, 20 years from now, you can sell it for $100!!!! You might not want to though, by then a Litre of gas will probably be $100!
