i just bought a new bike
and im not liking the coaster brake,
is there any way i can take it off
i do have a rear hangbrake aswell

The coaster brake mechanism is built into the hub. You could replace the wheel or get a new hub and rebuild your wheel around it. Is just not using it not an option?

you can take the hub apart and pull the brake shoes out, and then you just have a makeshift freecoaster, no more brake.

yea but the makeshift freecoasters take forever to wind up sometimes. i made one a few years ago, and sometimes it took like 8 full crank rotations to get it to catch. pain in the ass if you ask me.

8 full rotations? You must have messed something up. Mine takes like 1/2 to 1 turn for it to engage.

yeah same, i dont even see how that is possible, the engagement nut shouldnt be able to unthread itself that far, you are probably missing a piece.
