I'm looking to buy a new 2003/2004 trek 5200 or 5500. I'm from Ireland and cycle shops in my area don't sell these bikes. I was hoping someone here could direct me to a good dealer where I could get one. Also, has anyone here rode either of these bikes? It would be great to here some opinions.

Go to www.totalcycling.com. This is a mailorder site in Ireland that carries Trek frames. Hope this works out for you.

I test rode the 5200 a few weeks ago. There was Trek/LeMond demo program where you could ride the bikes as much as you liked. I first rode the new Steel/Carbon Zurich and thought it was the best bike in the world. Then, I rode the 5200 and revised my opinion.
First, the 5200 is incredibly light. I could easily pick it up with one finger. I swear my shoes weigh more! It was quiet, no road buzz, all I could hear was the free hub spinning and the chain solidly engaging as I shifted gears. There were a few minor hills and I went up them with ease.

I'm also amazed there's somewhere in the world where bike shops don't carry Trek. I thought they'd become the Coca-Cola of bikes by now. I'd venture to say it's the default bike for any bs inventory.

If such a place exists I'd like to move there. :D

In Oz there are very few Trek dealers. I think it has something to do with the conditions of becoming a Trek dealer (not allowed to sell rivals, no framesets, less options etc etc I don't know what they exactly are, but it seems like those I mentioned). We have 1 chain of bike stores that carry them. Also the exchange rate hasn't been that favourable (until recently), maybe the sales of Trek in Oz will pick up in the next few years as the exchange rate picks up.
I travel between here and the States regularly, so it is quite easy to compare. The amount of Treks on the road over there is amazing, every second bike practically. Where as here, one 5200 will turn up in a group ride of 30 or so.
Starbucks? What's that? :D They haven't made it over here (Perth) yet... They are on the east coast though. I can't wait until they get over here! Watery, bland coffee with ridiculous amounts of sweetener in those stupidly oversized cups!! My mouth is watering... ;)

Actually Trek builds bikes in Ireland.
Or at least did they just decided to shut down production there and build in Germany.
