I took a fall on the slick rock trail, and slid about 20 feet on my back, head first down the sandstone hill... the trail ate up most of my clothes, and a ton of skin... not fun at all...

What was your worst wreck?

I was riding a series of about 15 switchbacks, I made it to the third one, locked up the front and kicked the rear over, right off the trail. I rolled the rest of the way and stopped face first into a boulder. I lost a tooth, most of my watch and a shoe. I also wrote off my mongoose team IBOC. I have never lost so much blood from so many places in my life.

Less cool, but more painful, I flipped into a ditch, had the spd's cranked for the road, bike went one way, I went the other. Say bye bye to my ACL.

Last week I was going down a steep down hill and hit a small rock which thew me to one side then over my handlebars, the only problen is that I was headed staight for a tree. Fourtunatly I did not hit it but my legs got whipped over my head so quick I felt evry vertebrae in my back crack and pulled alot of muscles in my chest and stomach, but other than that I was un harmed. The best part was that my buddy saw the whole thing

I was in a race 2 years ago, very fast (18mph) single track with lots of overhanging trees,
hit a root (i think) , which caused me to go offline so i did not duck low enough to clear a tree, the rest is history, cracked my helmet in 3 spots, was temporarily knocked unconcious, bent my seatpost back. when i came to i had to ride back 3 miles to the start / finish line, i checked out ok, followe up with 3 months of chairopractic work on my neck. ouch.......

i still race on the same course today.

Well, i cant say this'll compare to your guys skull cracking or teeth breaking, but my worst wreck was going down the back side of a very steep hill. I was up to ~20 mph, and hit a steep bumb. Like an idiot, i hadnt squeezed my brakes at all , so i hit the bumb at full speed, sending me flying for who-knows-how-far, and landing(with my hands still clenched to the grips), right onto the wet grass. I did a somersault and say my proflex beast flying over my in the sky, and when i got up, my right shoulder was dislocated, and i had tore two muscles in my left shoulder. Miraculously my Proflex was as good as new. (Great bike btw).

I remember when i got clipless pedals... i had a easy 5 mile ride home from the shop, one that i do twice a day, however this time, when i came to the first stop light, i totaly forgot that i was cliped in... i fell to my right, and landed on my side, just a bruised ego, i couldnt do anything but laugh, im sure there must have been 100 or so people that saw that fall... sad thing was, i was only about 100 feet away from the shop... so im sure they saw it too... oh how fun http://www.bikeforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

My worst wreck was last summer when a friend and I went to Ty Siding in Wy. and saw a hill that was really steep. I don't think that we were supose to go up the hill because it wasn't a regular trail, but we wanted to go down it fast so we started to huff it up the hill. When we reached the top of the hill my friend started down the hill and half way down the hill he was stopped to see if i was behind him and I was. Needless to say that right after that point on the hill there was really long grass and a logg just off the trail as it narrowed and I went on the other side of the log and didn't see it. I steered to get back on the trail and was going really fast I flipped over my bike and rolled I can't remember how many times. Thank god I only twisted my ankle and wrist and had a part of a tree in my thigh that I didn't find til a month later when I was scratching my sore. I think my bike was in worse shape than I was. I ended up walking it back because even with the rear brake realased the wheel still wouldn't spin. I got a new bike because I figured out that the backwoods GT was to big for me to control. If your goingto ride your going to Wreck it's inevitable. Thessen

Well I was doing my first XC race and it was at Mt. Buller.
There was like 100 racers so it was packed near the start. I got off alright but when I got to the singletrack bit there were way too many people wanting the same line. I was sorta stuck on a very bad line on the outside. Was really loose and bumpy and the front wheel just dished out and I came to smash into a nearby tree. Everyone behind me then proceeded to get tangled up with me. Ripped my bike out of the tree - ripping off the speedo cables and my race plate which pissed me off the rest of the race which I finished eventually.

Ohhh which one, there have been so many.

How about starting with the least painful but most flambouyant fall. My buds and I were riding a trail after classes with a jump in one of the clearings. We've done the jump hundreds of times before, so it was no problem. The problem started the night before, it rained for a couple hours. The landing area became a mud slosh pit. Since I was the first one to the jump and I've ridden the trail so much, I didn't think to look at the landing. Hit the jump at full speed, hit the landing and stuck it perfectly. When I say I stuck it, I stuck it, literally. The bike stopped, I didn't. I did a sommersault over the bars and landed flat on my back about 5 feet away, right in front of all my friends!!!! Super embarrassed. The bike was still upright sunk in the mud past the hubs. Almost like someone put it there on purpose.

ill let you do the maths... i hit both brakes and i dunno how but the rear just collapsed, luckily i was only injured in the sense of a wrecked up face and broken nose, i got a full face straight away... since then my face or head has not beeeen in like an acident, well i broke an ankle 2 months ago on a ride to the shop...
