So I joined a racing team this year. We've got sponsorship, matching uniforms, the whole nine yards....

This weekend a couple of us went down to run the Hanson Hills XC Challenge in Grayling, MI. Part of the MMBA Championship Point Series: http://www.mmba.org/racing.php
I was really looking forward to this event as they had a Clyde class in something other than the shortest possible race distance, and best of all- people were posting seriously competitive times- times that would be nothing to scoff at even in their age division.
It was everything I hoped it would be- a bunch of big dudes who don't make excuses for their weight. They get out and ride hard and use their size and strength as an advantage when they can. I managed a fourth place in the Sport Clydesdale class, and I had to work hard to get it. The cool thing was, even if I entered my age group, my time would have still been good for fourth place. I actually might have placed higher in my age group as the Clyde class was sent out after all the age groups and we had to do a lot of passing.
Anyway, if you're sick of the Clyde class being treated like a bunch of people who are way out of shape and have never raced a bicycle before- I highly recommend checking this series out. If the races weren't so far away, I'd consider running the whole series.
Oh, and my fan club showed up. And took pictures. I'm the big (duh) shaggy dude. And my fan club seems to have a sense of humor. I might have to revoke some memberships if they start getting too carried away. :D
