Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Paint work complete! You grumpy bastards can eat my shorts!

Well, I was very fortunate to find a powder coat shop that painted my frame for the cost of two boxes of donuts and two cans of Christmas cookies. Basically, I got it done for free and I provided some appreciation. Anyway, after reading all of the thoughtfull comments and wholesome suggestions regarding my illogical plan to install some fake Italian frame decals I have since decided that was a bad idea. I did however, want something unique and different but certainly not FUJI. Before sending it to get painted I cut off all the excess cable guides, derailler tabs, shift lever boses and drilled the top tube for internal cable routing. So check it out! I wanted to keep with the theme of Japan.

there could be pictures of each tool draw whee each tool goes...which would remind me of bikes not bombs in boston..which would make me sad...

My guess is that your toptube will crack at one of the points where you drilled it. Best keep a close eye out for same. Does look good, though.

I've seen frames with drilled top tubes (on one of my bikes the downtube is drilled for a dynamo wire - lasted 20 odd years so far) and think that as long as there are no angles and the hole is completely round, it should stand up ok. No stress concentration.

Nice Job. Your frame looks very similar to the Sagres I just finished building. If the graphics on your bike were anything like mine, they had "F." on the seat tube and the fork blade. This, of course has me trying to figure out how to have matching decals that read "U." made. Look for pictures soon.

One thing I think you've guaranteed I'll never post is a shot of my shop. Tools on the floor, mountains of paper towels covered in chain lube and syn grease, piles of part on the surfboard I use as a table - there's a reason my wife won't go in there. Your workbench has shamed me.

Attached, truly is the completed project. The picture above was done simply to harass some of the list members who previously flamed me. The decals attached are vinyl decals that were custom cut. I actually wanted them a little bolder but they still look great in person. The color of the decals are a deep blue similar to the bar tape.

uhm.. yea. theres a hill called "cardiac" hill. ill say this - its a good things we have like a million hospitals nearby - but draw your own conclusions. pittsburgh is the type of place where, being a hipster fixie works for like a mile at a time. There are steep hills in all sorts of places. for example - Sq. Hill where i grew up.

Then, again - everyone at my lab commuted by bike this summer. It is not impossible. There is some nice singletrack in the parks (i have heard) and thers a nice trail and a velodrome nearby. The suburbs (this does NOT mean sq hill, shadyside, oakland, downtown, homewood, homestead, point breeze, lp, gf, or any other part of the city.) are hillier etc.

And the drivers... we have the 2nd largest population of old people in the country- next to FL. Plan accordingly. Expect quick moves and bad driving - and J WALKERS! -nrs

Darn it, I liked the original decals more. They certainly got me to thinking about what I'd like to stick on my next bike. "Poguemahone" strikes me as apropriate, somehow.

So is FUKU your revenge on the bastardisation of the English Language ( Japlish ) by the Japanese in the naming of some of their products/services, such as 'Creamy Collon' and 'The Big Off' ?

Because Fuku would be pronounced 'foo-koo', not 'fuk-yoo', which kind of takes the sparkle of your otherwise very clever retort. I also like the way you painted it white, which is also very subversive.

I guess the question on everyones lips is 'Why not put "Dorfmeister" on it instead'? Or perhaps 'Do the Dorfman'? Perhaps 'Dizzle mah Nizzle'? That would get you mad props from ya homies.

I live next to a river valley that is nothing but a series of steep hills, with a lot of grades in the 17% range. I was just up in P-burgh a couple of weeks ago and the hills there are no worse than here.

Ask the Dirt Rag crew (http://www.dirtragmag.com/forums/) about fixed riding in Pittsburgh, a number of them are doing it. They've got a friendly forum over there.
