Charity Events - November Charity Ride in Tampa, Florida

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Are you looking for a challenge? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others and give something back to the community? Register today for the 2nd annual Ride Without Limits, a
two-day, 200-mile cycling event on November 8th & 9th .
The event caught national recognition earlier in the year when the editor of Bicycling Magazine did a story in the March issue. "The Ride Without Limits in Tampa was the best-run most rider-friendly charity event I've ever participated in." Steve Madden Editor
This cycling challenge is a personal journey and a community quest to help all people with disabilities live without limits. 170,000 people with disabilities count on United Cerebral Palsy every day. With your participation, we can prove that everyone is able to make a difference.
The event is back to back centuries or an optional 50 mile route each day. As far as meals are concerned lunch and dinner are provided on the first day of the event as well as breakfast and lunch on the second day. The SAG support and rest stops are incredible. More specific route details should be available in late July as far start-finish lines and overnight accommodations.
Current registration fee is $35 and minimum fundraising is $500. The web site if you are interested or want additional information is http://www.ridewithoutlimits.org

Last years ride was great! It pushed me to my limits. It was special to be involved in such a great fund raiser. It felt great to help such a wonderful charity as United Cerebral Palsy. I look forward to this years event!!
I've cross - posted this to the local riding group I go out with - see if we can generate some additional participation. Thanks for the heads up!

I really had a blast at last years ride. It was absolutely awsome to be out there just riding. A no pressure, ride at your own pace kind of weekend. It so good to know that you are also making such a difference for people with disabilities. I look forward to doing it again this year. Lets make this year even bigger! Get the word out folks!!

This was a wonderful ride. The volunteers were fantastic and the ride was beautiful, but most important to me was meeting the families and hearing how much this fundraiser meant to them. I still get chills when I tell people about this event.

Cross posting from received e-mail...
Mayor Iorio (the Mayor of Tampa) has graciously decided to become our Honorary Chair Person for the Ride Without Limits. I would like to thank Mayor Iorio and her husband Mark for taking on such a large role in this year’s Ride Without Limits. With their help I know we can truly make a life without limits for all people with disabilities.
Should make it that much more fun.

This sounds like an interesting event. I might try to convince my dad to let me do this. I just have one question, could you tell me where exactly in Tampa this is taking place? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, one more question, does anyone know what would happen if you weren't able to raise the minimum $500 donation?
As far as I know, the exact details of where and route data hasn't been released yet. I'd have to suggest going to the web site (www.ridewithoutlimits.org (http://www.ridewithoutlimits.org)) and use the contacts there to ask.
Typically on charity rides, if you don't raise the funds you're politely asked not to participate.

We are actually in the process of setting the route details during the next two weeks. We should know the exact route by the end of July. I will make sure that I post the route details to this blog so that you will be well aware. Also, if you don't raise the $500 you are asked to either write a check on the day of the event to make up the difference yourself or you can make four instalment payments post ride. Basically you are pledging that you will raise the money or pay it yourself. We allow the extra time so that if you started fundraising too close to the event you would still have a chance to participate. I hope you will join us. Visit www.ridewithoutlimits.org for more details and to register for this event. Thanks for your interest.

Alright, thanks Drew55 and krigdon for the information. With the way things are looking right now, I dont think I'll be able to participate this year for several reasons. Actually, i just looked at my calender for marching band, and it turns out that we have a competition on the 8th of November, so that takes this out of possibility. Sorry I won't be able to go this year :(. But I could start fundraising and all that good stuff for next year, that way I won't have to worry about that part. It probably wouldn't hurt to also become a better long-distance biker, because honestly, I don't think I'd be able to go 100 miles one day, and then 100 the next. So, maybe if I start preparing for next year right now, I'll be in a better shape and have more of a chance of completing it. But good luck to all who are going to attend this year :thumb:.
While it's understandable that there are other things in life it would have been nice to have an additional rider out there. You'd be surprised, back to back centuries aren't quite as bad as it sounds if you've not done that type ride before - It's just two great days in the saddle, enjoying the lovely surroundings.

You may be right. I haven't really had the chance to just go out and see how far I can go; but at the moment, I've been using a bike that my dad bought but hasn't rode a single time. But I have been getting a little numbness in my groin area when I ride. I'm almost 100% positive it is because the bike isn't fit properly. But I don't know which bike shops in the area are professional fitters, nor do I know if I would be able to afford it. Do you know of any good bike shops in the New Tampa area? If you care to respond, you could just PM me so that we don't clutter this forum with a bunch of off topic material. Thanks in advance.

We had our scouting company out last week looking at possible routes. They have come up with a great route, however they are still doing some tweeking. I can say that we are starting in Tampa close to MacDill Airbase and going up Bayshore and then into downtown. The route will take us north for about 75 miles where we will spend the night. We are still confirming the overnight location. All in all, it is a great route and once we get all the kinks worked out, I will post more details for you. Thank you for your interest! Have a great day.
Not too late to get started!!! Even if just a part time rider, there's still time to train up and get ready for this one. C'mon out and help
Today is the first day of fall! Temperatures are starting to drop and now is the time to start some serious training! Stop making excuses and sign up for Ride Without Limits today!
