Any links to a tentative map for this Saturday's Trek 100 leaving Pewaukee?
I can probably follow painted signs on the road to scout it out, but a map would be helpful!

The routes for all the distances can be found here (http://www.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=264114&lis=1&kntae264114=07EA1B9E89EF4ADFA4A99CDCFE25E8CB).
You going to come out and make me famous like recursive?
I'll be doing the 100 mile route.

Awesome ... info very much appreciated. Well, there is NOTHING else going on Saturday within 2 hours of here (bike race, triathlon, etc), so I'll be out there shooting pix somewhere. I don't know most of those roads on the 100, so I'll have to scout it out. Any tips on long climbs or tough sections?
:)

hmmm... most of the route appears to be pretty tame. i live on the soutwest side of waukesha, so the southern half of the ride is all my familiar roads. i can tell you that the area on ZZ right before the Ottawa lake rest stop is right through the kettle moraine forest and its super pretty...that section on ZZ is all downhill.
i'm not super familiar with the roads on the northernmost part, but i know that its pretty hilly up there.. that's all the "holy hill" area.
i'm sure someone knows those roads better than me. i've only been that way on fast group rides and i never take the time to pay attention to the road signs. (I'm relatively new to Wisco, so i'm still learning)

I'm a little familiar with the northern part of the 100mile route and nothing really jumps out at me as being too bad, looks like they routed around the worst/steepest sections.
I should probably hang out more in this section since I live in the area.

I mapped the ride on Map My Ride . . . while somewhat imprecise you can see that there really are no "killer" hills (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/pewaukee/980468689659). I think after last year's accident (http://blogs.jsonline.com/offthecouch/archive/2007/06/04/Checking-on-the-cash-and-crashes-in-the-weekend-rides.aspx) they wanted to avoid as many hills as they could.
The far southwestern and northwestern parts are probably the nicest for background scenery though.

^^^they should have routed the ride UP that hill instead of down.

Forecast for Trek 100:
Temps in the mid 80's with isolated T-storms and strong SSW winds 20-30mph!
The wind will make it quite interesting with the first and the last 30 miles of the 100 into a head wind...

I'll be there bright and early, camped out somewhere along "SS" shooting pix. Starts for all rides is within a 3 1/2 hour window ... that's better for me than waiting until the cows come home for the last riders to roll in. Then I can still ride in the afternoon myself.
Dress sharply ! :)

I'll keep my eye out for ya . . . if I see you I'll stop and introduce myself.

 You're far too kind! Although if not for the rain I probably would still be riding -- slowly nursing my way to the finish. Nice to meet you to formally put a face to the name!
My report: It was HOT, its was HUMID, it was deceptively HILLY and, just to make it more miserable, it was WINDY (Chicago hasn't got anything on us)! In the end, the heat just got to me (That'll teach me to do all my training rides at night -- nice and cool) and I pulled out at 72 miles just as I started cramping up and I looked at the radar to see what was coming. Turned out to be a good thing since by the time I would have hit the last rest stop I would have been pulled of the course anyway due to the Tornado warnings that were all over.
At least I survived to ride again another day.

The Trek 100 this past weekend was my first century. 6:50 hours on the bike, and 8 hours total time. Surprisingly, my legs feel ok, but my lower back is shot :)
The last 15 miles were brutal, what a way to finish the ride. There were a couple of decent size hills along a busy highway.
The funny thing is as I made the last turn to finish at the WCTC, the tornado sirens went off!

Timing is everything regarding the weather, eh? They just sneaked that one in. Shot a zillion pix, will get them posted ASAP.
Was going to hit the WI State RR champs today, but gotta go back to work tonight and the Cat 1/2 race was pretty late, so I was forced to skip it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they canceled because of the big T storms. Anybody know for sure?

Were you in any of the groups that they asked to leave the course? They tried to get everyone off -- of course there were some who refused . . .

As I made a left turn onto the frontage road that's parallel to 94, one of the volunteers said "the ride's over". Nobody asked me to leave the course though. I only had 5 miles left to go then, so I just went for it.
From the number of people at the last two stops, there had to have been about 100 to 150 people left on the course when I finished.
Ironic that we rode right by the national weather service center in Sullivan earlier!

Was there any suggestions on what riders were supposed to do when asked to leave the course? Was there a sag vehicle taking riders and their bikes back to the start? Hopefully they didn't expect riders to just stand in the ditch and call for a ride.
Where exactly is one supposed to go when asked to leave the course which is routed along a roadway and is the route one would take to get back to their car when leaving the course????? :backpedal:

I'm not sure how far back they were sweeping the course, but I know there were only a handful of SAG vehicles. Definitely not enough for everybody who was on the course.
They sent out the Trek Travel vans and picked up riders from the rest stops. Looked like they were able to put maybe 10-15 bikes on the racks on those vans. I think they also had the sag vehicles picking up people along the route.
As for how far, they had at least one vehicle drive the entire course.

I think the suggestion would be to ride faster... Not to be cocky (because I was for sure hurting), but I finished the full 100 miles about 30 minutes before the storm line rolled through and that was on my fixed gear ride.
But good Lord, that last 20 miles, into the wind, uphill... was just brutal.
