This may be the wrong forum for this post, but please forgive me, I'm new!

I've seen the bike racks that mount to the trunk of a car that are relatively inexpensive, but is there some type of reasonably priced rack for transporting a bike upright in the bed of a truck?

With the pvc rack, I would probably use a tie down strap to be safe. As for the fork mount, just mount it to a 2x8, or 2x10 so you are ot drilling in the bed of the truck. Also, it can be removed if you need to haul something.

The next time I order online, I plan to get a couple fork mount for that reason for our truck. It is a pain using our hitch mount tray rack w/ fork mounts in the bed cause of the topper. Though I only do this when pulling one of our trailers.

I ride with a guy who has two of the fork mounts mounted on a ratcheting spreader bar with padded angle brackets on each end. Just set it in place, adjust it to fit with the ratchet, and then lock the ratchet. The one pictured is the Thule Bedrider, which retails for around $130 or so.

Mount 2 (or more) of them to a 2x4. If you have a bedliner it probably already has notches to hold the 2x4 in place. Cheap, works very well, keeps the bike low where it won't get hit, can't beat it. I don't know why anyone would get anything else for a pickup.

Also I forgot to mention that the Delta is a very nice forkmount. Very solid. Highly recommend it.

Here is my solution. I bought some 1/16" cable at Lowees, 4 "S" hooks, and 8 cable clamps. Make a loop on each end of two cables, and secure the loop with 2 cable clamps. Place an "S" hook in in each loop, and squeeze down the side of the "S" which is in the loop.

I mount the bike by placing the "S" hooks around the saddle rails and place the other "S" hook through the tie-down eye at the rear corners of the bed.

Secure the front wheel by running a ratchet strap through the front wheel and securing it to the tie-downs at the front corners of the bed.

No need to remove the front wheel.

The bike has ridden a few thousand miles like this with no problems.
