Foo - I like to ride because...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Why do you like to ride a bike?

I will quote myself from another thread:
"It keeps my anger genuine"
I just love it. There's no satisfaction greater than knowing that you just traveled a considerable distance under your own power.

I just like the feeling of getting outside and pedaling. Caloso is right on the money - the satisfaction of being able to ride so far under your own steam is amazing.
Plus, I love buying toys, and bike stuff is so easy to justify since it keeps me healthier too!

I love the high. I love the feeling of powering my own vehicle. It is a great stress reliever. I love to eat, but most of all, I am addicted.

Caloso has it dead on. That, plus it gets my mind off of other things I don't really care to think about.

Hey, it gets girls attention and that makes it sooo worth the rides. That's more than enough motivation for me to keep riding!!! :roflmao:
It's funny, cars will pass me by and I see her eyes staring through that side view mirror! :D
It IS addicting. I'm there. It's also a great way to spend time with my teenage son... and I get to stay in shape as part of the bargain.

Except for having my license confiscated, I hate it and I am free to spend lavishly. I'd rather vote for all of the above. But there something really deeply satisfying about pedaling for miles, taking breaks cause you want to and not have to, realizing that you are in total control of your goal and still have the energy after going 40 or 50 miles to come home to push lawn mower around the yard. Aaaahhhh!

to quote the old zen koan,
"I ride my bike to ride my bike."

I think I have been in the situation to meet most of the criteria in the poll at one time or another, but now I ride to see how far I can push myself. I ride to see what it's like to "just go north" for a few hours and see what's out there. I ride because I can.
Right there I think is the biggest thing for me; I ride because I can; we are all getting older and I want to participate in a sport that will allow me to continue to be active into my golden years (granted the spandex may not fit as nicely then).

Hey Megaman, I see you live in Tomah. I've been to Tomah, 40 or 50 miles is the distance to the nearest gas station there. ;)

I voted I am an addict. But most of the other choices apply. As so many others did, I agree with Caloso...I sometimes look at a map and think I went that whole distance under my own power.
When a map of Nevada or the Loire valley is displayed certain images immediately come to mind, none w/o a bike
imposed over some great scenery.
People comment about my photos..The efforts I make to get a bike within each and every frame. Never is a bike not present on any of my bike tours. ...... One photo I took of my road bike superimposed over the banks of the Loire River. Looks like it is walking(?) on water.
I think of the distant future..years down the road when I can retire; I hope I can locate ourselves, so that I can commute by bike to work in some part time job and to hell with cars. Maybe then my mileage will exceed 10,000 miles a year.
Of course, my wife will have the car for long distance needs.
