Last night I decided to take the long way home which includes crossing the Cross Bay Bridge.

I get to the path and it's closed!!! Damn, I wish I had seen this information somewhere.

Anyways, rather than go all the way back up to Aqueduct, through JFK, then through Rosedale into Long Island, I hitched a ride with an Ambulette over the bridge and continued home.

I cannot find any information on the closure or when it will be re-opening, but based on the construction I saw, it looks like it'll be a while.

I checked on the MTA website, and it looks like it'll be closed until sometime in October:mad:
Kinda kills my 50-mile loop out through the Rockaways.

(Due to construction, cyclists and pedestrians must use the shuttle bus to cross the bridge. Shuttles leave every fifteen minutes from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day. Each shuttle bus can accommodate eleven passengers and four bicycles. Shuttles depart from Van Brunt St and Beach 92 St, adjacent to the north and south ends of the pedestrian/bike path, respectively. The path will reopen in October 2008.)

Yeah - I had that happen to me too :( There is a shuttle bus that's stationed there to take people back and forth but the rack is cheap. Thought I posted it in the Bike Lane progress thread but I didn't see it, posted it now.
