Mountain Biking - 12 Miles of Hell Ride/Race

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone done this ride? Saw a link to it in another thread and now I'm interested. The pictures don't look all that bad, really. I'm used to riding in WA so maybe my perception is a bit off. I can see how someone from this area (DFW) would look at some of those hills as hellish, but -while some are indeed steep for short distances - overall, it doesn't seem all that bad.
Of course, having said all this, I'll probably go up there and get my butt handed to me. Anyone have any insight to the riding up there? Thanks.
3 of us (so far) in east OK are planning on going. It's not a part of any series, is not NORBA sanctioned, but still draws a huge crowd every year. It's kind of a cult thing, a friend of mine has been almost every time they've had it.
Here (http://www.12milesofhell.com/) is the link.
